Is 4 - 6 hours for the PSP enough?

Sharp makes monochrome LCDs for calculators too...your point?

Nice living behind rose tinted goggles huh? ;)
Well, what was your point then? That PSP is the only LCD screened device suffering from bad visibility in bright sunlight, just because it's PSP and from Sony?

Wipe those goggles already ;)

Um...it was about power consumption. Time for you to eat crow. ;)

Your goggles must be quadruple rose tinted TDK hard coated for you to think people will buy PSP to play tetris with headphones and screen brightness turned down.

It's kinda funny how SONY tried to hype PS2 level graphics and nice quality screen when in reality you'll be getting sub DC level graphics on a dimmed down screen. ;)

Bad visibility in sunlight -> increase screen brightness -> battery time reduced = in every LCD screen device with adjustable brightness.

Targeted PSP buyers are too old to sit out in the sunlight at days. They're not kids sitting on the lawn playing their PSP's, they are young adults travelling on trains, aeroplanes, buses... they use their PSP's more indoors than outdoors on the playground getting their goggles all shitty when they drop them in the dogpoo on the ground

Edit: hmmm.. all the reports have said the screen is nice quality... but you must know better.
I won't touch the sub DC level graphics, as ther was a thread for it already.

A Sharp panel used in PSP is Sharp's proprietary ASV (Advanced Super View) LCD that feartures black low-reflection coating and wider viewing angles. It's usually used in Sharp's expensive LCD TV lines, unlike TN panels found in usual PC monitors. PSP demoed in E3 2004 had used TN panels.

NDS doesn't have a brightness adjustment so the battery rating that's claimed for NDS doesn't require you to turn down the brightness. ;)

But of course you already knew that since you fit the target market for a mature PSP buyer.

Lucky for you intelligence isn't a PSP buyer prerequisite.

Oh and it doesn't matter if the screen is the best in the world, unless you're all alone sitting in your closet with brightness turn down. However in your case make sure to turn the screen brightness up to the max in order to penetrate the rose tinting on your goggles. ;)

Yeah, no one doubts that you deserve to have a mature handheld

Well, if the PSP screen is indeed same technology as those in Sharp's expensive LCD TV's (ASV), then it should be perfectly visible under normal lighting conditions. Direct sunlight will be a problem, as is expected with LCD screens.
I've heard that these new LCD TV's and monitors already have a very good picture, some even say they are in every respect equal to CRT displays when it comes to viewing angles and colour reproduction....

Again, my poit was that it is no news increasing the brightness of a lcd in a portable limits the maximum battery time.
Just because some device has no adjustable brightness, doesn't mean a device with one is automatically better with regards of battery life.

How does the DS maximum screen brightness compare with PSP's?
Will the DS screen be better visible in bright sunlight with it's default (non-adjustable) screen brightness, than PSP with it's brightness adjusted at minimum?

There's nothing wrong with high resolution active matrix color LCD on a portable that plays console carts over 10 years ago. ;)

I'd like to think even fanbois like yourself can admit to this.

It was seen as a problem when it was speculated it'll be about 2 hours average on games, in which case it would have been a problem.
But now that it's about 5 hours average, it's almost like it's even a bigger probleas as before

I know Sony have said that PSP battery life will be 4-6 hours in games. But I'd still be very skeptical of it being 5 hours average in reality. We'll see once people start reviewing it I suppose.
