But building up dominance in the company's self-declared HD era is going to take a lot of work, with Europe posing a particular problem. One important factor for the company in Europe is the low penetration of high-definition TV. While the US is basking in a 13-or-so percent adoption, Europe is suffering in the low single-digits. Moore said during his talk that Microsoft is considering adding VGA output to Xbox 360, thereby making it easier to take advantage of the millions of non-HD LCD TVs already in living rooms across the continent.
thought vga was confirmed ?

Sony on the price diffrence

Then sony on the psp

Sony's European boss, David Reeves, took a much different approach in his keynote speech. He opened by addressing the brouhaha surrounding the PSP in the UK, confirming that the company had sent out 600 letters to various retailers. And while eBay is not exempt from Sony's glares of disapproval, Reeves admitted that Sony would only be going after big sellers. Reeves was adamant that no individuals were being targeted and told us that this was all being done in the best interests of customers in the UK.

"If you buy a PSP, at the moment we simply do not have the resources to repair it," said Reeves. "We are not capable of doing that, and we don't think that's fair on the consumer."

anylasts on installed bases

The analysts also showed that, thanks to the hardware shortages that plagued both Xbox and PlayStation 2 last Christmas, it looks like the current generation may have peaked a year early. The thousands of PlayStation 2s that Sony flew in (at a cost of £8 per unit, according to Sony's Reeves) were not nearly enough to meet demand. When so much business is done over the holiday period, squeezing out every sale is essential, and it's something that neither Sony nor Microsoft were able to do. But just like PSone, both companies can expect to see some life yet for software on their consoles as customers slowly make the transition to next generation of hardware.

One of the principal boom areas for games companies is China, which is awakening to the prospects of entertainment as average wages creep steadily higher. According to Sunray Zhaohui Liu of Beijing New Synergy Consulting, the country currently has in excess of 350,000 (!) Internet cafe's, where Chinese gamers can go to feed their predominately MMORPG desires. As an example of the scale we're looking at, World of Warcraft, which just recently hit the 2 million subscriber mark worldwide, saw more than 500,000 concurrent users during its beta test earlier this year. The thought of making games for the 1.3 billion people living in the country clearly set off dollar signs in the eyes of many attendees.

just some interesting stuff in the article

What type of video connections will the Xbox 360 support right out of the box? What other options will be available?

Todd Holmdahl: Out of the box (North America), we will support component video (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i) and composite video (all worldwide variations). Aftermarket AV cables will add support for S-video, enhanced SCART RGB, and VGA.

So, you are supporting VGA this time in the retail console?

Todd Holmdahl: Yes.

Seems like Nintendo isn't that far behind with it's installed userbase:

17.8 million vs 18.8 million

I thought it was more, Nintendo could IMO gain in on Microsoft when Xbox is pulled out of the market (already being done).

Support is confirmed, but I assume he's talking about adding it to the cable so it has the capability right out of the box, rather than needing to pick up another product.
