Interest MS picture of Xbox 360 architecture

Looks like the Xenos is the "CORE" and everything is built around the ATI GPU

That's how the current Xbox works too.

Actually it's not. One of the big differences is that the Xenos (GPU) is the memory controller. In the original Xbox they had a standard Memory controller in the Motherboard Chipset.

That makes me think... One of the biggest performance boosts that the A64 gets is it's integrated memory contoller....

Could that mean that the Xenos could benefit in the same way? I think the likelyhood is high there.... On the other hand all graphics cards on the market now have their own memory controllers also. The only real difference here is that the CPU accesses Memory through an interface into the GPU's Memory controller...

So nevermind :)

That's not true. The Xbox's NV2A has the integrated memory controller.

this is nothing new. Dreamcast and Gamecube were centered around their graphics chips.

PowerVR2DC in Dreamcast and Flipper in Gamecube had the memory controller and I/O if I recall.

Ok, I was under the impression that the motherboard for the Xbox 1 was similar in nature to their PC chipset that they designed at the same time. having their standard NB/SB with a UMA design. i.e. the memory controller was on a seperate chip(built by nVidia), not built into the GPU itself.

Edit: Looks like the the IGP was the memory controller. Sorry bout that.
