How hard would it be for a next generation GPU to handle PPU

A hardware and shader question folks. Looking at more info on AEGIS's PPU today

Made me wonder could a next generation (or current top end) GPU on a fast bi-directional bus do much the same thing as complex collision detections, vertex transformations (damage and momentum transfer etc) - without the need for additional hardware purpose build to only do physics?
