i made sure my computer was in my hand luggage. So every time i was in the airport they really scanned the hell out of my bags, had everything removed just to make sure it wasnt a bomb. (this was post 9/11) It didnt help that i look like a crazy son of b*tch.

On a related but totally opposite note, a professor at my university travelled within USA and to Paris (IIRC) with a scientific thingamajig that I've forgotten what it was. No wait, it was a spin detector! Anyway, he had it in his hand luggage and apparently it was a closed metal cylinder with some electronics attached to it on the outside. Practically screamed "Bomb!".

Not once did anyone question him what he was carrying. One security guard opened his bag, saw the device, closed the bag and gave it back to him.

Apparently the guards knew what it was; after all, it was just your common spin detector! 8)
