not to rain on anybody's parade.. I mean I have an xbox and it is definitely my favorite console..
But I doubt halo2 is going to look anything close to as good as DoomIII.. maybe if you were running both on a GF3 with crippled fillrate....
I'm sure the game will be great though. God I wish I could play Halo1 on xbox live! right now.

wishful thinking or not, doom3 killer or not. We can be sure Halo2 will kick some badass this year!

now give me 720p Bungie and show the naysayers the real untapped powers!!!

Untapped powers? On a wellknown nvida chipset? On a optimized lib set and API?
Don't expect jumps between software generations as seen on the PS2 and the GC (probably).

    ChryZ,

I wouldn't be so sure of that. There's plenty of interesting things you can do withthe nvidia hardware in Box that hasn't been thought of yet. It gives you plenty of room to optomize and make trade offs. GC on the other hand has a very stright forward APi and doesn't leave much room for a lot of optimizations. Ask any person coding on gamecube and xbox and I'm sure most would agree. PS2 is another world altogether.

Not to mention we've already seen numerous developer claims that support that notion.

I am not negating that there is room for improvment on XBox and GC, on the PS2 it simpley a bit harder to get things flying and thereby the improvments on the PS2 look a bit more drastic. Maybe it's just me, but I was quit shocked by ZOE2. Let's call it a pleasant surprise. Halo2 looks great, but I expected nothing less. Talking of Halo2, I would love to see some in-game screenshots/movies.

exactly, i'm sure that when people saw Burnout2 running on PS2 for the first time they went WOW... same for ZOE2 and Silent Hill 3....

it's a different type of WOW factor.. on ps2 the WOW is strictly related to *WOW how the hell did they get little old ps2 to do THAT!!!* talking about the shadowing engine on SH3 or the sheer beauty of ZOE2

on the xbox its a *WOW look at that bump mapping* for HALO2, but everyone knows that the XBOX is SUPPOSED to produce that kind of graphics and the shadowing system is nothing the ps2 can't handle...

the thing is, the ps2 cant really handle all the effects that, say, halo2 has at the same time (bump mapping, shadowing, hires textures, probably hi res output as well) but thats the whole reason why a single effect like the shadowing in SH3 (and thats pretty much all its got apart from really good art and poly count) looks even more pronounced because its the ONLY wow-effect in the game.... people are going to see that SH3 has an awesome shadowing engine and beautiful models and they are going to say, WOW that is the best game i've ever seen on any console because it looks and feels real and its on a PS2 (which should have worse graphics than gc or XBOX)...

i agree that halo2 or even doom3 look awesome, but people EXPECT to get superior graphics from the xbox therefore they wont go WOW as often or as loud....

Some months ago Edge had an article on the different Consoles and how much they could be squeezed. The interesting thing about this was that several developers mentioned that Nvidia wouldn't give out all the information on the NV chip. Dunno what information exactly, but they mentioned that they wouldn't do it because they feared that the competition would gain knowledge that could be used against them.

now thats weird... how would they be panalized if they release all the information on the chip???

its the same with sony when they first launched ps2.... i just dont get it... im sure that if everyone had full access to the ps2 architecture early on its life they would only gain from better developed games... can anyone explain me whats with this politics?!!!?!?!?

.....and how would ATI reading the nv2a specs hurt nvidia???

i dont really think they care about a chip that they already surpassed....

    the must be like: NV2-WHAT?

I have no idea, i would imagine that Nvidia = Paranoid, but as time goes everything should be known and the XBOX can continue to improve.

Interesting article actually, they were very pessemistic about the X-Box, but they proved them self wrong, PGR2 looks awesome and they didn't think they could gain much more than 10% more :)

Reminds me of GT3 and the 100% claim... until they hooked it on the PA2.. oops...

well they claimed that gt3 was 1/4 on the ps2............ now that is SLIGHTLY ambiguous... is it 1/4 the total poly pushing power? or maybe 1/4 total fillrate??

    what is it!??!?!

Ps2 generation leaps in graphics: oh WOW PS2COOL IS PS2!!
Xbox generation leaps in graphics: yayayayay, big deal

Ps2 show leap in graphics, so will Xbox, both are cool but Ps2 leaping is a lttle too late to WOWMYBOXOR now.

I will be shot for saying this, but get this month US OPM and play the ZOE2 demo included. You will see that the core graphics is very similar to ZOE1, just that Konami added more layers of particle, light and smoke effects. 8) Impressive YES! but no as WOWZA as you wanted. 8)

NOW, ignoring the first part of your post...

yeah, the CORE graphics should very well be similar, its a frigging sequel!!!

like the CORE graphix of your dear wowhalo2roxorzz is the same as the first one just with some more "layers of textures" and nice shadows...

    will u ever give up!!

Must hold tongue, must resist, can not ... argh:

LOTR, anyone? Everytime I read one of chap's brilliant posts/threads, I have this picture in my head "Gollum petting a X-Box, whispering my PRECIOUS" Hihi ... it definitely eases the pain. Sorry Chap, but you've deserved it. Ok, back to behaving.

London-boy, the shadowing is not really the only effect the game has going for it. They made a state-of-the-art vertex lighting for the game, that had people fooled for monts thinking they actually used per pixel lighting. They made some of the most impressive volumetric fogging effect that in this part of the game even gets illuminated by your flashlight. They made some crazy looking morphing procedural texturing system on the room walls. AND on top of that they showcased some of the most amazing art direction I've ever seen in a game, which to me is much bigger WOW that any of the technical shabang they came up with. That is the reason ICO for example, looks so enchanting to me. Art direction, not it's technical accomplishments (which are not to be ignored, btw, just saying I care about art direction much more) I think many people would agree with this.

Chap you honestly deserves a big fat punch ###!!!

Do you feel good raising xbox to the sky and dumping the rest in the traschcan..

Personally i Don´t care because i own all newgen consols..

If you have an idea or something that "xbox" is best.. Well i have seen some very good looking games on all the systems but the xbox is the best/powerful..

I really want you yo stop talking alot of shit about the GC and PS2 because their good.. To you it seems that the Xbox is going to save the world from disease and war etc.. Dream on..
