Got a little problem....?

Well I lied its big one so lets start from the beginning. I frequent IGN boards a lot, yes I know they are bad, just some retard came a little while ago claiming 720p and 1080i will be the norm in games next generation. While I think and to do a degree know this unlikely I can't write it out in any clear way where if people saw they would believe. So if anyone could me out it would be appreciated. At the same time I like these boards as I lurk here a lot yet lack knowledge when it comes to talking about consoles and how they work. Help from anyone in regards to my little problem atm would be appreciated.

Actually pretty much everyone here is hoping for 720p and 1080i being standard for next gen, or AT LEAST 480p with AA.

Hell, look at the technology jump between all previous generations of consoles, and then look at the fact that CURRENTLY the most powerful one we have, Xbox, can do 720p AND 1080i!

I'm hoping for the latter part of your statement. While I would welcome the higher hdtv resolutions, fps issues among other things come in to my head and say nope.

IMO, resolution is not as important as what is actually being displayed on screen. It´s also a bit wastefull to use resources that could be used for something else on achieving 720p.

I believe 480p with 2xAA or so will be the standard next generation. I´d rather see more polygons and pixel effects than a higher screen res.
