GL_ATI_uber_buffers

Over on Rage3D, m$-MaNiAC posted a question about this extension he noticed as being reported (I presume new to Cat 3.7).

Just thought some people here might have been waiting for this extension, and/or might have some interesting things to discuss about it...
 
This was discuessed a while back as something that exposes all the float buffers R300 is capable of I believe, kinda a hold over until full OpenGL2.0 comes. I'm not sure if this will be able to access the F-Buffer or not.
 
So dave what kind of apps would we see an increase in when using this . Would doom 3 benfit from this ?
 
Don't uber buffers let you do something like rendering to a vertex buffer, use a renderable texture as a vertex buffer somehow? I'm not sure where I got this notion from, but it would be very useful if I was right.

Yes I believe you can do all of this with uber buffers.
