Can't wait to see the HumanHeadDemoTeamSecrets.ppt... Any idea when is going to be released? :p
There is a short video showing the texture-space lighting they used ( like The Matrix Reloaded agent Smith ) and talking about they use like 23-50 SSS offscreen passes rendered to a texture!

I doubt it would be much different from the advanced skin pdf that was released for Adrianne.

I wonder what other body parts are they willing to render :)

How good it would be if it could move as good as it looks? Seems impressive to me.

Looks really nice but I don't think this is something we'll see looking good in motion for a while.

    It's a 3d head scan, I'm guessing by http://www.xyzrgb.com/

Anything with textures and geometry scanned from real life is going to look pretty damn good, regardless of the lighting and shaders.

If they can do that visual quality on an animated face while the character moves around a fully dynamically lit scene then I'll be truly impressed.

I wonder if it will be Jen Hsun's face that NV shows when they are able to show this level of detail with eyes and hair running at adequate framerates on consumer hardware :)

Or maybe it should actually be Erik Lindholm ;)

i agree, theres some terrible stuff there
look at the cheesy glow around the head
the only reasonable shadows (should be nearly perfect)

i admit its very nice but for as a showcase for the top of the range card (by ppl that know it intimately) its not wow.

something along the lines of toystory like graphics i think

Pretty darn good SSS, if you ask me. Comparable and even better than many offline renders. The ears in a few shots could have used some back-light scattering, but the overall effect is top-notch.

I've seen same reports on the NVnews forum but when I tried to run it on my GF7950GT it crashed. Newest official drivers and DX9 April 2007 installed.

It runs on my 6800GT with FW160.02 & 158.27, but not really. Here can you see:

GPU idles, so it is full cpu-processed. :???:

Sorry, it's not subsurface scattering, it's a fake.
Although it looks good, just not as good as the real deal (with raytracing and all). There's plenty of info about their method, it basically renders the lighting into a texture, blurs it in image space a few times using some extra parameters, combines it together and then uses this to light the face. It's a development on the Ruby skin shader from that old ATI demo.

Real SSS would give you transparent ears, for example, like this:

Either you're not serious, or you haven't seen any good offline renders... Even Gollum looked way better than this and that was in 2002.

    Some quick examples:

Why should I not be serious? I have said it's *comparable and better than many* offline renders, not all. I have been a cgtalk member for many years now and believe me I have seen enough renders, I have seen those links you sent save a few. (Thanks for reminding anyway, they are really cool :) )

Please do appreciate what is being done for a change!

This is the best techdemo I've seen so far of a face and overall. Makes other techdemos look simple and old and by that techdemos from either PC or any console. And the framerate is very good, over 30fps at high res with high amounts of AA and AF, wow!
