GameCube owners: what do you think about 3rd party mem card?

What kind of a fool buys no-name brand floppies then turns around and complains about how they have bad sectors on the disk?

Agreed. Last time i bought a third party oooh-look-it's-green-and-transparent-and-u-can-see-the-chip-thing-it's-so-cool PS1 mem card, it corrupted all my save games. Including my 60+Hrs FF7 save game. Never EVER EVER again.

Because not always do you have problems. I had one problem so far with out of those weirdly-complex memory card contraptions, but the basic functionality has held fine for years. (Meanwhile I've certainly heard of people wiping their 1st party cards or having corruption issues too...)

Also, no one is complaining about having bad sectors--or whatever--on their card that is discussing the "certainly people will buy 3rd party cards" and the "there have been cheaper and better-storage options available, I can see why people go after then" points. Quality isn't the point, and of course the quality of all third party sources are eternally in flux.

Personally, I prefer to give alternate sources my time of day once in a while because A) there's not much risk, B) it makes them more competitive and able to deliver better products, and C) with luck it will affect the first parties somewhat so they don't bully the public too much with their brand premiums. Hardware or software, there is always the chance for incompatability problems and such... but you don't get a competitive market without it.

For memory cards specifically, since it's something I'll almost undoubtedly want multiples of, I tend to get one first party and then delve into other options. I can keep my most desired data on the one card, have some recursion and backups from one to another if there's room, spread the wear between multiple sources, test the quality of other products out there through personal experience, save a bit of cash... and in the end gain a little bit of satisfaction from treating the marketplace as it's supposed to be treated. ;)

Hi Guys,

We have some no-name card that came with a controller and some extension cables as a package for like $15. I've never had a problem with it (though the controller sucks). We have the windwaker and it's been fine. Over all I'm happy with it.

My wife immediately got addicted to the windwaker as soon as we got it (and she thought I was insane to spend $50 on it), so I should probably just drop the "we" and say "My wife" instead. :)
