GAF is down

Donated [an amount], the forums gives me quite a bit of enjoyment sometimes.

edit: sorry, shouldn't have written the amount.

I wish I could donate, but I've no CC and no paypal account. Things would never be the same again with out GAF. It's the absolute best source of the latest games news. I hope they post regular updates i.e. how close they are to having enough money to set up servers again etc.

I'd donate, if I could just see what it's all about.
Anyone got a tip on how to become accepted as a user? I've tried different passwords and mail addresses, but none seems to work.

edit: I guess I'm too late if they’re changing servers.

The moderators have to approve each new account, so there's usually a big backlog of accounts to be approved. They probably held back on approving new accounts towards the end, given the strain the servers were under (though I recall reading one thread very recently, wherein it was said that over 1000 accounts had been approved after E3 - perhaps that broke the back of the server?). With the new servers, I imagine everyone will be reregistering again, and they probably won't have any approval process initially just to let everyone back in..if you register as soon as they get back up, you've a good chance of getting quick access. That said, they may have been able to keep their member records, in which case they may restore them to the new server and go on as normal.

true. it is/was the best source for news on the entire industry. console, PC, arcade, handheld, online, etc. too bad this had to happen. at least it happened after E3.

Donate? Never! :devilish:

I've been "in the moderation queue to be added to a forum" for nigh on two years now  so they can go to hell.

The problem with the Gaming-Age Forums is that they moderate opinions which don't conform to the mob sentiment. It's like what happened to Chap and Deadmeat here, only far worse.

An argument lives or dies on its validity. A response to either insistence or persistance is inherently an off-topic line of discussion; it's when such a tangent is followed that a disruption actually occurs. There is also no justification for reactionary missions of running around and "balancing things out". It's not a moderator's place to judge on perceived "agenda" (nor other poster's business to bring such a thing into discussion), for the only definite infractions are when a person can't keep to the context of the argument and wanders off ad hominem.

'Troll' is a judgement as to someone's agenda. Whether anyone agreed or not with their perceived agenda, there was no call for others to shoot off some tangent that decried their personalities and thereby derail the discussion. Deadmeat and Chap's opinions might not have followed popular sentiment, but their arguments were more on-topic and personally civil than the criticisms which dragged in behind them at each of their postings.

Maybe Deadmeat was civil, but Chap was just as bad as the people who flamed him.

Deadmeat's agenda was to slam seemingly everybody who ever made a console. I saw him slam Nintendo, Sega, MS, Sony. I'm surprised he didn't go after Hudsen or Atari.(Yes, I know more companies made consoles, but they made the next two most remembered ones.)

Lazy, you're of course free to entertain whatever opinion you like about Chappers and DM, but I think you'll find most people will agree that neither of them were equipped to follow a sensible debate, Chap because of his obsession about the platform of his choice (xbox CGI bling-bling, aka "shiny shine") and other fanboyish nonsensical drivel, and DM because of his aversion towards everything Sony.

I can't even count how many "factual" versions of PS3 DM offered up, and I know he's been here longer than I have; I've seen yet more versions quoted in old posts of his and there must be even more buried in the page archives.

Just admit it, the guy's a NUT. He claims to know EVERYTHING, but has no education or working experience in the field, and typically bases the opinions he ascribe to be facts on stuff he either misinterpreted, or on nothing at all! The rest of us knows this, maybe you should open your eyes.

A guy can be disruptive without calling others names and such you know.

The place (GAF) is an easy place, it is just about games. Most of the threads can be quite entertaining. And I don't find the moderators to be a problem (same here).
