I have seen a couple of games now where Fog/smoke effects destroy AA on RSX.
It's actually more than that, they magnify pixelization.
Why would that be?

Perhaps a refraction effect of low quality? You know heat-haze effect which makes things look a bit jaggied (depends on quality though). Minimal pixelation in Far Cry, major in HL2.

It's not refraction in this case. The most recent examples are R&C city fog and Drake under waterfall in Uncharted, and none of those shows any sign of pixel diffuse or similar post processing.
