First xbox360 game reviews

1up has already reviewed the first xbox360 games, Amped and NBA 2K6.
Both get an acceptable score for a first gen launch title, though critisized for not really being "next gen", more like this gen with higher resolution.
What do you think, will there be a "10" score like there was for Halo this gen launch?
To me the most of the announced games seem like solid 6 to 7 games, PGR3 being the only one I think could score high.

Those reviews sure focused on the graphics a lot.

Strange, since I had heard graphics dont matter..

Who said they don't matter, those reviewers? The games they reviewed are the same gameplaywise as this gen after all, so if they'd focused mainly on gameplay would they've scored any better?
I do think graphics matter greatly, why else would I buy a new console?
It's pretty much given the gameplay would not change much (if at all, really) next gen, so it's the much improved graphicsh the néw consoles will be bought for.
...apart from Nintendo and Revolution, of course ;)

There are certainly no "10s" from what I've seen of the line-up. But definitely some strong 8s and maybe 9s. Hopefully Kameo and PDZ deliver. While this launch is lacking that serious 'kille app' that the Xbox had, the overall robustness of the line-up is more appealing to me. Lots of decent to great games spanning several genres to last until the second wave of games hit in the Spring.

Early returns, the X360 is underpowered.

Might be time to wrap it up for MS, depending on PS3.

There are no "wow" games yet because the graphics aren't good enough.

I wouldnt say underpowered, maybe just not tapped to potential yet? We all know most of these titles are rushed, that could be why 1up is saying these games look nice, but not the jump they were expecting. Like Hardknock said, spring will most likely contain some fresh new games. And this is only two titles, im interested in how pgr3 and kameo will do.

Based on a port of current-gen games, and a crappy sequel to a mediocre game series, of course.

Can't wait to see what your opinion of the PS3 iwill be when all you get to judge it by are 360 ports.

1up are saying that live is "more" next gen than nba2k6
2k6
Just look at these, its really realistic and "life-like"

live06

I'm sorry but if 2k6 doesnt have "next gen" graph/animation i cant see how live would be ( since the whole test is a comparison with live2006 ). Just look the way the point guard runs, and the crappy standard shooting posture.
You can add as much physics, animations or whatever as you want, but you still have the limitation of the gamepad...

edit : nevertheless it is also said that 2k6 looks really sharper in hd, maybe the appreciation is based on what you see on a standard tv ?

Live2006 is more next gen and more impressive than 2k6 in any aspect.

I am glad because its about time for all EA haters to realize who is the boss in sport games :devilish:

If a game on a new piece of hardware isn't pushing the gameplay envelope, you'd better hope the graphics are good.

I mean, I can get Live and 2K6 on a PS2 too. So the graphics ought to be a lot better if one was considering a X360 purchase for these games.

To be quite honest, if you don't care about graphics, I'm not sure what you're doing buying a X360 this year if you already own any of the current systems (unless a Halo-alike comes out of left field - please!). It's the same really with most new hardware barring revelatory game experiences - the main clincher IS graphics. If there is that really brilliant genre-defining game there too, then it's just double the pleasure.

Actually, XBL is completely overhauled for the 360 and most of the new features of it are ONLY available on the 360, not the original xbox. Yes improved grpahics should be part of the package as well (and they are) but there is so much more to the 360's experience (lets not forget xbox live arcade, and full HD MCE functionality as well) than just improved graphics. Theres many reasons for it to be a comelling purchase besides just the improved grfx it delivers.

very premature

of course the reviews of these launch games are going to be 7-9 (COD2 already got a 9.4 from totalgames).

There needs to be room for when the devs really start to tap the power of Xenos and the 3 cores. (2-3 months on final dev kits is laughable)

look to 2006 for plenty of top shelf 9.5's etc.

PGR3 and Kameo will most likely be 9s, maybe Madden too.

still not a bad launch compared to many in the past with 6-9 sorry-ass games.

Threads Merged

I merged the two threads. Seeing that the new one contained new scores, I didn't just lock it.

By the way, still no PD0 Reviews? When do the reviews for PD0 are supposed to be published?

IGN stated they don't even have PDZ yet! So I'm guessing we'll have to wait til after launch for a review :???:
