First pictures from nVidia's 3D handheld / mobile dev board?

in pictures 3 to 7, it looks to me FPGA / development board connected to Memorycard bootable Linux system. (in fact, there seems to be at least 2 different boards...)

though I am not really impressed if they can run original Doom with it. (even the port seems to be quickly done. image gets clipped on both edges of screen.)

I think these have been seen before actually - when they first announced the solution.

Curious they picked doom though. ATI had Quake (1) and MotoGP running on Imageon 2300 at the Tech days, and we've seen of Quake3 and Tony Hawks running on MBX's.

curious , it's downright bizarre!

*surely* doom isnt 'hardware' accelerated. . in fact it's already available ( and not *that* bad) on the nokia 7650's . . .

well, in fact... there is some very good looking OpenGL ports of it nowadays. ;) But in those ports, the graphics engine has been practically rewritten. (and based on those images, I am pretty sure that nVidia's port is just old 2D ported to fit on their platform.)

aaah didnt know that

still , compared to ngage motogp / fifa (even tomb-raider) etc , it's hardly impressive for a hardware solution :-/

I think they might be just using the existing 2D part that they got in the acquisition of that handheld chip company they bought. That would certainly explain the 2D game they are demoing.
