Fight Night Round 2

Picked it up last night. Very good game. Plays much better than 2004. The ability to punch/block while moving changes the game a lot. Just about everything in the game has improved. Some people don't like the haymaker feature, and I don't like it a lot, but the penalties for getting caught throwing one are much more steep than people are saying. Haymakers seem fairly easy to counter, which can cause some serious damage. If you try to trade normal blows with a haymaker, you're going to lose. If you counter, you'll be in very good shape.

I got the gamecube version, and I'm not having any problems with the controller at all. It's maybe a tiny tiny bit shy of the xbox and PS2 controls, but any review that takes off major points for the controller is really overdoing it. Haven't tried Super Punchout yet.

I'd have to say, if you liked the first one, this one is a must-have.

does the octagon shaped holes on the GC's analog sticks make punching feel funny (ie clunky)?

Honestly, I don't really notice it. Maybe a little bit, if I'm concentrating on it. I played 2004 on the Xbox A LOT, and I can still pick my punches on the cube just as well. Maybe others will be more sensitive to the controller, but I really think it's a non-issue.

The game really is very improved over 2004. If you have a cube, I would definitely say it's worth getting. Maybe if you have a cube and a PS2 or the Xbox, choose one of the others for the online play, if you're interested in it. But if you don't want online, I'd go for the cube to get the same experience and Super Punchout as bonus.

yeah, i have all 3. i was just getting around to buying 2004 when the super punch out tie in was announced for the cube releease, so i waited. the cube version is, in my mind, the version to get. i was just curious about the controller, not really concerned. i have a plethera of controller converters (including at least 3 ps2->gc, i think i lost the forth) so if it was an issue i would have just used one of those.
