Explosion claims 3 lives at Scaled Composites :(

Privately-funded space flight have now suffered its first casualties.

While I suppose nobody really expected this day would never come, that it came so soon - and was so severe - will probably throw doubt in the minds of financial backers. We can only hope they'll realize that space IS the future for humanity, one way or another.

Grisly and callous as it may seem at a time like this, new endeavours have always been lined with human sacrifices. Not just space flight or aviation, but whole ships with entire crews were regularly lost when europe was busy expanding its sphere of influence across the globe.

It's not that these sacrifices are neccessary in order for us to progress. They just seem unavoidable, that's all.

My thoughts go with those injured and killed in this terrible accident. Hopefully we'll soon know the cause for this event and can take steps to prevent it from occurring again, or at least improve safety measures should it happen again.
Peace.

Shouldn't have much of an impact on anything but safety procedures hopefully. People die all the time for a lot less admirable reasons(Hell, average life span might even start decreasing because people can't stop stuffing their face with high energy density foods.)
