EA acquires Glu Mobile Inc for 2.1 Billion [2021-02]

Electronic Arts announces a deal to acquire Glu Mobile for $2.1 billion in enterprise value, in an all-cash deal.
Will close in Q2. This comes just after its acquisition of racing game maker Codemasters, expected to close later this month.

It's pretty simple isn't it? Mobile games bring in a lot of money from microtransactions. Combine existing IP, future offerings and likely some mobile related patents and technologies and you're making medium term investment for high profitability.

It's pretty simple isn't it? Mobile games bring in a lot of money from microtransactions. Combine existing IP, future offerings and likely some mobile related patents and technologies and you're making medium term investment for high profitability.

With a few exceptions, they don't own any IP. It's mostly all licensed. And these type of licences are all timed-limited and never exclusive. This was not an IP grab.
