DOA4 overload - 1UP special

Apparantly his crusade against Tekken is a personal vendetta against namco because they badmouth his games during the early days of the PS. The guy's joker.

Well maybe he should try making a game that's as deep as Tekken, then he will prove Namco wrong. Until then he can only joke i guess.

My favorite fighting game has to be Wrestlemania 2000 or the WCW counterpart from the year before. Really great strike/grapple system that required timing and skill (not mashing). Not to mention a ton of moves, a ton of charcters, 4 way play, a lot of cool modes, and best of all: Create a wrestler where you could do THOUSANDS of moves

After that VF because of its subtle balance. Tekken was fun too, SF is a classic. I dunno, personally, fighters kind of got stuck in 2 dimensions and they still are really pre-canned. They look SOOOoooo.... hurkey jerky at times.

Nothing like you would expect in real life. Sad day when you can say a wrestling game is more realistic!

Aren't the analog buttons used alot with sports games? Like in baseball games isn't it the analog buttons that allow you to check swing? And in Basketball games doesn't the analog face buttons allow you to pump fake? If not then I have no idea what you guys are talking about with this analog button.

And on Itagaki's thoughts about Tekken. Oh please of course he would say something stupid like that. Just exactly why I didn't take his thoughts on the PS2 and PS3 into play AT ALL!!!

You're joking, right? It IS an expo, for crying out loud. That's like saying that it only takes 30 seconds to get through airport security. "9 minutes to watch a trailer" is more accurately, 9 minutes + several hours of waiting in line.
Umm..NO! C'mon now. Everyone within reach of a computer who wanted to see the MGS4 trailer would've seen it by now! It didn't have to be at the show. We weren't there...but I'd bet a large majority of us (if not all) have seen it already! That's what I meant by "9mins to watch the trailer", maybe I should've said "9+mins to download and watch the trailer"...but I know he's referring to seeing it at the show. Oh well, moving right along...

Itagaki on Tekken:
I no longer can figure out what the hell they're trying to do with the numbering...
Hmmm...DOA, DOA2, DOA3, DOA4, DOAU, DOAX...good point!
...and I don't know which one is which.
True...much like the DOA female characters...are they all sisters?

I just watched a high res video of DOA4....and it looks pretty bad compared to the other 360 games. It honestly does look like a very shiny very sharp Xbox DOA game. I also watched a crappy video of the introduction of Vitua Fighter and that game is going to blow DOA4 away. The only reason Itagaki should gloat is because of Ninja Gaiden, DOA (I think) is not that good of an achievment and can't really put down other fighters because DOA is not a really good fighter to begin with.

:???: The guy is WORKING. There are hundreds of journalists there to cover his game and work--it is a very tiring experience. Beyond all the appointments with the media (both in the open and behind closed doors) big events like this is where a lot of behind the scenes meetings occur with publishers and the big wigs (read: MS) about strategy, up coming titles, progress checks, etc. And lets not consider any calls or such he has to take from his team with any workplace related questions.

I am not sure if these intereviews were done at the TGS, if so there is no reason to expect him to have seen it. So if 1UP.com was at TGS interviewing him then his answer seems very much in context--he does not have time to go wait in line to watch a MGS4 trailer when he has dozens upon dozens of committments to the media and other companies.

Further, he is on crunch. That means he does not have a lot of times, not to mention getting a direct feed video is not the easiest thing to do.

I agree that DoA4 does not look very good. Part of that is the style (smooth skinned anime), the other part is a combination of art, the precanned type fighting animations (I got tired of these in the N64/PS1 era... why are they still doing this?), and not really doing some of the crazy advanced stuff we are seeing in other games.

As for gameplay I think there has been enough discussions the last week of people who LIKE the series, even more so than Tekken. I never played it, but like Tekken. But people have different tastes.

I know people who swear by VF and swear at Tekken.
I know people who swear by Tekken and swear at VF.

There is enough fighting games--and difficulty levels and learning curves--for a broad number of gamers in the market.

I think it is pretty clear from reviews, sales, and hearing feedback on the forum that DoA gameplay is not for everyone, but that it is not one of those clearly "bad" games. It just appeals to different types of gamers.

True. I'm more into the complicated counter your counter type of fighter game. Obviously VF would appeal to me. Thing is, visually, DOA (as already been stated) does NOT look good (to me it doesn't look good at all). Not only that...but the character models look very very rigid. Almost like a barbie doll where you can only bend certain areas. I think thats what makes it look so unappealing to me. I was expecting more fluidity with the movements but it still (looks like and will probably feel like) stick figures hitting eachother.

I thought so until I popped in DOA3 the other day. The jump in Jann Lee's detail is significant, to say the least. Not that the game is the most amazing game out there, but it is much better looking than DOA3. The environments have received a really big upgrade.

I did notice that (should have pointed that out). It feels more solid and expanisve. The ONE thing I liked about the DOA series is the environment and how you can interact with it.

Hmmmm, I was watching a gametrailers vid of DOA4. I'm also likeing the high framerate of the game. It makes the punches and kicks feel swift and the movements very snappy. I'm happy Itagaki is going for 60fps (even though I'll never get this game), its good that hes striving for it though.

I'm not sure about his work on the PS2, but ever since DOA3, his games have been 60fps. Although, there is the odd scene in Ninja Gaiden where there is a ton of blood and the frame rate dips (try killing a gajillion bats all at once ;) ), but for the most part it is 60fps.
