DMC4 Full Demo video.

ah, a true DMC... fingers feel itchy.. good job, capcom! those guys know what is the leading factor in a game title - the fuckin' gameplay! and their technology seems to serve their game nicely - i don't care if all the levels' good looks were achieved through photo-textures and heavy use of lightmaps, i don't give a damn if their engine was RE4 in HD - their tech meets its purpose spot on, and this is all i care about.

*puts game on shopping list*

That girl´s hair looks really good. That girl and the lady from Ninja Gaiden Sigma are the best hair renders i have seen in a while.

IMO, the DMC4 woman is away better. Look at the soft shadows in her face. This effect is almost inexistent in DR woman.

Is the lighting actually better, or just different due to different lighting in the environment? Notice how dark the background is in DMC while DR seems fairly uniformly lit which would reduce the contrast of the shadowed areas.

Change the lighting a bit and...

Besides, my point wasn't to start a "which looks better" debate, it's only to point out how similar the graphics are between these two games which use the same game engine are.

So when was it announced that DMC4 was going to use that same engine? I must have missed that memo, because so far I had heard that DMC4 wasn't going to use that engine, unlike the other games ... ?

Hope the DMC characters don't look as flat and horrible when in motion as the DR people do. The textures in DR look good in screenshots, but pretty bad in motion. They could have done better with DR textures/art... and I'd be really disappointed if DMC looked that bad.

There's also a few issues with the DR engine that I hope get fixed for future games (alpha/transparent parts of textures blocking effects like DOF, for example -- that looks like ass in cutscenes!), if they are infact using that engine for DMC . Hopefully capcom does like they did last gen and modifies their engines heavily for each game (iirc, much of their last gen games were actually the same base engine).

I can't say much about the lighting, since that depends heavily on a given scene and is pretty hard to tell differences given different circumstances. It may be better, it may be the same, it may even be worse... but it's hard to tell given that they are different environments.

Considering they will have more than a years worth of time to refine and improve on the engine and game content for DMC, I would be very disappointed if it didn't look better than DR.

But again, I wasn't trying to start a debate on which ultimately looks better, just how similar they look in many ways thanks to using the same engine for both.

I didn't mean to compare them like that really, as I don't think DR really deserves to be compared to other games on graphics (I don't think it's all that great looking -- definitely not a AAA title as far as graphics go -- I doubt it's pushing the 360 all that hard). My main concern of the post was they fix the issues with the engine, if they are going to be using it with other games... I'm not sure why I brought up the texture part (it bothers me, but I can't hate the game for it, really).

DR looked fine for what it was -- I don't think the game is any worse really because the skin looks bad. Graphics wasn't its strong point, but I don't really think that was their main focus with them game anyways -- it looked like they were trying to make an enjoyable zombie game without dumping tons of money into it (and they accomplished that). As you said, it'd be disappointing if DMC (which likely has quite a bit larger budget) didn't look notably better.

On a side note, hopefully DR2 gets a much larger budget and get's some proper skin. =p
