Did the MTV special backfire on MS?

The whole point of the MTV show was to unveil the system for the public...more specifically, the casuals. In that, it worked. There are two stores near me that are now have over fifty preorders for the system each and that number is still going. It's the start of the marketing push for the system, nothing more. There will be some bigger events later this year, with games finally running on actual hardware and looking better for it, as well as having more time put into them. The marketing push will be huge and pervasive...X360 will be all over the place for the next year before Sony and Nintendo even get to the market here in North America.

I personally thought the show was a waste of my time, but then, I already knew most of what was shown beforehand, like many hardcores. Point is, the hype is now building.

MS needs to do something about the $50 preorders though. It should be $20 tops.

I may just have to take chances going to Target.

50$ is the stores . Ms doesn't set the preorders . Also it doesn't cost 50$ to preorder. Think of it more as layaway as that 50$ is taken off the price of the x360 .

I already have 125$ on the x360 and i will continue to put 5 more a week till it comes out . That way i may have more than enough for the system and instead of one big dent to my wallet its a slow drain haha

PS3 will sell pretty much sell with it's own strength.
Ps3 will sell for the same reason that x360 . early adopters and those who are told by the clerks and magazines that its the greatest thing since sliced bread . We were told with the ps2 to push the 60+ million polygon persecond number and to tell customers that the dc could only do 3 million .

Its hype for everyone and that is what allways happens as we were hyping the dreamcast with 3 million polygons against the playstation saying something like 75k polygons .
