DeltaChrome details

Concerning the initially claimed 16x sample MSAA capabilities for the DeltaChrome I have the feeling that S3 somewhat has overestimated the bandwidth requirements for such a high sample number. Why they still haven't opted for say 2x or 4x MSAA instead of 2x SSAA is beyond me.

Irrelevant of IHVs I'd say we might see one or two generations with maybe 8x MSAA or around that and then they might start moving to more exotic algorithms like fragment AA or whatever allows high sample AA with minimal bandwidth costs.

I may be stupid as I don't understand the excitement surrounding the Deltachrome as we already have a third contender (XGI) with a series of cards (Volari) which look far more exciting than the Deltachrome as Volari doesn't have this 2x AA maximum limitation

I disagree.

Both new entries have their share of good and bad points. I'm a little more excited about XGI, because they are making a direct attempt at targeting the high-end. I also like the prospect of someone trying to bring multi-chip to the masses again.

But it's just way to premature to wholly praise or condemn either of these architectures yet.
