Fantasy novelist David Gemmell, best known for stories such as Legend and Waylander, has died at the age of 57.

Gemmell had heart bypass surgery two weeks ago and appeared to be making a good recovery, according to his publisher Transworld.

What an absolute shame....

The film Legend was nothing to do with Gemmell's book.

I enjoyed Gemmell's earlier stuff but gave up after reading a series of books he wrote back in the mid-1990s which was just rubbish.

The early books were very enjoyable though.

It would have been, had the movie been based on the book. In case it wasn't then there are more pleasant ways of conveying that...

Just got "Troy: Lord of the Silver Bow" in hardcover today in the mail. Ordered it from Amazon for $16 while grieving and wailing over Gemmell's premature demise this weekend.
