Bush's policies cause unrest in the mideast

Huh? What the hell does Bush have to do with Cyprus talks and reforms in Turkey? Both were triggered by the EU. The EU basically told the Turks that they have to comply to European standards in human rights, law, democracy and religious freedom and that they have to resolve the Cyprus issue before they can even dream of being admitted into the EU.

There is zero connection to Dubya's neocon war in Iraq. The reform process started long before the war and Cyprus talks were on and off for a couple of years now and we have yet to see whether the latest attempts will be more successful than the earlier ones.

Cut that myopic American megalomania, for Christ's sake.

For opponents of the Iraq action:

Did you support or oppose the Bosnia and Kosovo Wars? If so why? Just curious, and for the record I opposed all three.

Hmm I opposed the iraq war before it started but now support the occupation. I think the interventions in bosnia and kosovo should have come sooner and by Europe not the US.

I simply support humanitarian based interventions...

pax:

But was not Hussein the epitome of "brutal third world absolutist dictator?" Therefore, couldn't the Iraq War be seen as a humanitarian intervention as well, regardless of the original reason it was waged?

Once you commit yourself to "humanitarian intervention" you paint yourself into a corner. Bomb Peru over its treatment of indigenous peoples? Bomb North Korea to end the '48 vintage Stalinist freak show in that nation? How about leveling Turkey over, well, more things than I care to count? And what about the granddaddy of all human rights violators - the PRC?

Of course, "preemptive war" carries the same philosophical baggage.

Its a case by case basis. I gave my plain reasons for thinking the iraq campaign was not worth the risk. There are plenty of other nations I think could recieve interventions right now without a fraction of the risk of the iraqi campaign.

You mean the so-called "Annan Plan?" If my sources are indicative of Hellenic Cypriot opinion at large it will fail badly at referendum time in the free part of Cyprus. In fact the new N.D. government in Hellas led by Costas Caramanlis is said to take a negative stand (quietly) towards this "deal," thankfully the Simitis/Papandreou/PASOK troupe quislings and Turk lovers are finally in the political ghetto where they've always belonged. The indigenous Greek Cypriots are justified in rejecting this atrocity - it basically legitimizes the hideous, rapacious, barbaric invasion of 1974, this second rape negotiated under the "moral" aegis of the EU.

Imagine Israel demanding rights, under a "peace" deal, to keep most of the West Bank settlements! Then asking for cash compensation (in the billions USD) from Palestine to pack up the dismantled settlements! And to place the proverbial cherry on top of this shit pile, they ask that only 2 percent of Palis in the camps can return to the West Bank per year, and 30 percent of the West Bank will still be Israeli at the end state!. Sick, absolutely sick. But given who we're dealing with it's really no surprise, none at all. :devilish: [/b]

The turkish one was supposed to be about Kurd's in Syria. Scroll down a bit, or up.

Ok, sorry. Would have helped if you were a little more specific when linking to a page filled with Cyprus/reform/economic news and commenting "the winds are changing".

ROFL, every time someone mentions the T word, Akira888 spews forth a hysteric and over the top stream of anti-Turkish rants. It's pure comedy.

It's a global sorry but there are mitigating circumcstances on my behalf: I have been exposed to far too many Legion and Joe DeFuria postings.

Yes, I am sure your firm faith in Apache attack helicopters and C130 gunships as effective means of bringing peace and democracy to the world under the leadership of your religious kook leader in the White House is the result of my ego

Not as sure as I am with regards to your egocentrism and your desire to tell me what i believe. Are you upset your country is no longer in the position to put the world, free of jews, under the rule of your fascist socialist government? Is your whining nothing more than American penis envy?
