Blogs on Xbox 360 MTV unveiling (it was taped last night)

Yeah seriously, Xbox 2 is a much better name, or even the codename Xenon, either one of them sounds fine. This is how I look at the name Xbox 360, Microsoft are back to where they started, because 360 degrees and 0 degrees are at the same point on a circle.

Maybe they wanted their investors to feel they have a clean slate ;)

Personally I would have preferred Xenon, Xbox 2, or Next Box to Xbox 360. But it is only a name... most names are annoying. The content is what will be important.

If MS can show next gen quality games we will associate 'Good' with 'Xbox 360' and how it makes our heads 'spin 360 degrees' in awe. We will say 360 = the circle of life and break into dances of joy. If it stinks we can pick on it for being right where they began...

There always the outside chance there is some gimmik that relates to 360... maybe they will emphasize the "Word Wide Community" aspect?

Xbox 360 ? I just hope they don't stick that number after the end of game title, like Nintendo 64 era.

Traditionally each new console has had a new name. Master System, Megadrive/Gensis, Saturn, DreamCast, SNES, N64, GC, Jaguar, 3DO...

What progressions have had serial numbering? PlayStation, PlayStation 2. Can't think of any others.

To go from XBox, to XBox (number tagged on end), it's neither a straight new console name, nor a progressive name. XBox 2 would work in the same vein as PS2, but of course MS don't want to be on 2 whle PS is on version 3. And I can see sense in keeping the XB name. After all I call a PS2 a Playstation - no need to tag a 2 on the end. Xb would refer to the family.

Generaly though I'd have thought there'd need to be some reasoning or tie-in with the marketting campaign. N64 meant 64 bit, which meant bigger, badder, faster. 360 just confuses the bejeebers out of me! What's the spin going to be? 'Revolution' I would have thought was taken, unless MS want to trump Nintendo. I can't imagine they named the thing without any consideration for how they would use that name to promote the system though.

We had this discussion before, and as I remember no-one came up with any intelligent ideas then. Hopefully the MTV cover will explain it. Until then I'll cringe...

As a theme circle provides plenty for imagination, we just have to wait and see what they have figured out. I think the name is ok and better than just Xbox 2, which would be dull, now we can have all those ring of power/light/whatever thingies :)

OMG a no smoking sign!!!

LOL! It's actually a (go ahead) smoking sign since it's green and all!

Anyways, me thinks the 360 leaves the idea where the console is the centre of your living room/entertainment system. Gates said it himself...he wants the console to control/do anything around your room. :devilish:

IMO "X-Box" itself is kind of a stupid name, adding "360" to it just makes it a little goofier. Not that the name matters, consoles often have stupid names. Odyssey, Vectrex, ColecoVision, Master System, Game Boy, Super Nintendo, CDTV, Marty, Virtual Boy, Nintendo 64, GameCube, all those names sound kind of stupid to me xD
