Best Mid-Range Quadro ?

Simple question : I'm building a server/rendering PC for the work & money is not a big issue.

whats the best mid-range Quadro with latest GPU tech (G80/G92) with decent amount of framebuffer ?

another question : How is the FX1700 in comparsion ?

I'm open to any suggestions/recommendations. the PC will be used for video editing using Adobe Premiere/Pinnacle Studio & a 3D astronomy program called "Uniview".

Hi,

have you considered a FireGL product ? they offer really good performance (http://www.spec.org/gwpg/gpc.data/vp10/summary.html) for a lower price point than the quadro.

A really good mid range is the latest V7700 with the rv670 GPU and 512MB of video memory, which supports display port (not available on the quadro).

Not really .. i'm only interested in Quadro's & here is one of the reasons :
http://www.beyond3d.com/content/reviews/40/4

this comparison is not really fair/valid imho. it compares the last high end quadro (FX5600) vs the last generation firegl from 2 years ago. the performance of the V7700 is significantly faster than V7350, and is much more competitive compared to the FX5600.

have you looked at the viewperf numbers on the spec website for instance ?

thats g80 vs r520 but ok
Well generally i'm interested in a G8x core GPU so thats a good indication of the performance. (the FX1700 is based on the G84 if i'm not mistaken?)
also read my other reasons.

in the nearby local stores where i live there are only Quadros .. no FireGLs.

will you actually need the driver features offered by a pro graphics card?
if there's a direct3D renderer in your astronomy program for instance and you mostly need video ram, then raw fillrate/geometry etc. there are cheap cards such as 9600GT 1GB and 8800GT 1GB. also a 9600GT 2GB (!) would you need to have such a ridiculous amount of data availabe at gddr3 speed :)
