I came back as a realist.

Realists…
<ul>
* Are guided more by practical considerations than ideological vision
* Believe US power is crucial to successful diplomacy - and vice versa
* Don't want US policy options unduly limited by world opinion or ethical considerations
* Believe strong alliances are important to US interests
* Weigh the political costs of foreign action
* Believe foreign intervention must be dictated by compelling national interest
[/list]

Historical realist: President Dwight D. Eisenhower
Modern realist: Secretary of State Colin Powell

That's a pretty accurate description of my views on foreign policy.

I am a Liberal.....

Liberal
Liberals…

* Are wary of American arrogance and hypocrisy
* Trace much of today's anti-American hatred to previous US foreign policies.
* Believe political solutions are inherently superior to military solutions
* Believe the US is morally bound to intervene in humanitarian crises
* Oppose American imperialism
* Support international law, alliances, and agreements
* Encourage US participation in the UN
* Believe US economic policies must help lift up the world's poor

Historical liberal: President Woodrow Wilson
Modern liberal: President Jimmy Carter

It'd be interesting to see what people come back tied to where in the world they live. I think it will provide a nice corrolation with the results and see if there really is a wariness of american power outside of the USA.

I live in New York City, USA.

Personally, I think the 'neocon' answers were too hawkish and/or caricatures of what a 'neocon' supposedly is. After reading the "Neocon 101" on the website, its obvious what the editors think of the neo conservative policy, and it aint too flattering.

I came back as a realist, but some of the questions I did not give a true answer (was forced to pick the closest of the options). I went back and diddled with some of my waffling answers (toward the more hawkish answer) and still ended up a realist.

Maybe they made being labeled a neocon very difficult, so as not to upset any of their readers who believe that neoconservatives have the mark of Cain.

Edit: ha. The quiz is definately screwball. Choosing the George Washington answer on #8 means you're a realist, choosing the last answer (multilateral) means you're neocon.

Yeah, on almost every question if there was a 'none of the above' option, i'd have taken it.

I came back as a Liberal, but I only half agree with most of what it said. Still probably the closest out of their limited options, but still far from right.

Well I came back a realist to...

Personally I think that being a realist is good right? Better than some fantasy :)

Realist supposedly. Though in many questions I'd like to check none or several of the options.

I find that test rather poorly constructed. You might agree with one portion of the answer but not others. I can tell you I am a realist without doing the test however. Being a realist is a pretty common thing and while ideologically in line with being conservative many people whom are realist still may believe they are not conservative. heh, it like you have to be careful of what you think these days.

Realist. many of the questions are the same as each other, just minor differences. Checking one or the other does not change the result.

Actually, it seemed to cariciturize every portion of the political spectrum.

-If you thought america could do no harm, you were a neocon
-If you thought america could do no right, you were a liberal
-Any sort of in the middle made you a realist

I came back as a realist; I only half-agreed with some of my selections, if not all of them.. FYI.

That's fairly accurate. I'm in the middle, a good deal right of center field but not nearly enough to be a neo-conservative.

Actually, I'm an 'isolationist' according to the site. :?

I went back and changed one answer to another one I agreed with just as much, and it flipped to 'liberal'.

Neoconservative

Neoconservatives?

Want the US to be the world's unchallenged superpower
Share unwavering support for Israel
Support American unilateral action
Support preemptive strikes to remove perceived threats to US security
Promote the development of an American empire
Equate American power with the potential for world peace
Seek to democratize the Arab world
Push regime change in states deemed threats to the US or its allies

Historical neoconservative: President Teddy Roosevelt
Modern neoconservative: President Ronald Reagan

Yahoo, I wish I was like Ronald Reagan (when he was younger).

I'm a liberal too. However, hopefully I will be moving to the US shortly, so if someone reminds me in a year or so, I'll sit the quiz again and see if my views have changed. ;)
