Anyone besides me...?

Play, compose, or both,....music?

Played music, especially Guitar off and on for about 10-12 years I guess.

I'm 34, so I grew up listening to the "Guitar Gods"...as they were called
back then.

Yngwie Malmsteen

George Lynch

Tony MacAlpine

They were probably my 3 favorites, and biggest influences.

Anyway,...this is a clip and snip from a Guitar Shred piece I call

Fractured Faith

It was made with about $300 worth of gear.
(Digi RP200...bookshelf stereo...and a few cheap PC mixing
programs. n-Track...Goldwave...Samplitude)

Currently working now, so much better gear, and hence much better
sounding music will be mine soon.

Hope you enjoy.

Was mixed to sound best using WMP 9.0...EQ on default or off...and
that SRS/Wow crap turned completely off.

Oh...and really loudly with a good set of phones.

You've practiced a lot, but that's not a song, it's more like "look how fast I can play". I like Yngwie and Tony myself, but you should not try to copy them, you should try to come up with something original.

That from a guitarist with 20 years of experience. I hope you don't feel offended, it's just my opinion, which should not really be of any importance to you.

In order to _play_ guitar, you should spend some time with blues/jazz/classical music in the most conservative way before you start playing metal. You don't have to like it, but it's an important lesson in order to learn more about the famous "feeling". Technically, you can play. Musically, not.

Well...as I said. This is just a clip, with only a small part of the theme
left intact.

I'll admit I left some/most of the flashy stuff in.
The entire piece is 00:06:38 long, and contains a pretty well fleshed
out theme and melody.

Although actually, that tune is pretty old.

My best one, and one I'm still working on is called

Skulk: Shadows of Oblivion.

I'll post a link in a bit. I have been so busy with the "real world",
meaning work, that I have forgotten where I put some things.

BTW...the techno was kinda cool...though I like mine a bit more
edgy...like in the early 90's....club type trance/dance music.

Here is a tune by a guy who does some techno from a forum
I frequent on occasion.

WARNING...CONTAINS A VULGAR WORD...REPEATED OCCASIONALLY.

dUDE'S NAME IS sNR pAUL

Here is an opening sketch and main melody to Skulk.

I used Fruity Loops for most of the synth stuff, even
used the little toy piano that comes with the Audigy cards.

The evil laugh right before the guitar kicks in is actually
Homer Simpson...warped it with a mixing program.

BTW...SKULK means to lurk, creep, or glide about with
bad or hostile intentions.

Forgive the bad crossfades...as I'm new to this one man band
mixing thing.

I'm probably going to re-do this when I get a real drum
machine...a POD and Vox processors....some Shure mics,
Mesa Rectifier and 2 x 12 cab to mix with
the direct line in,....and a damn good buzz.

Plus, I Haven't quite fleshed EVERYTHING out yet.
Still...not bad...and kinda creepy..

Skulk...shadows of oblivion wip

i made soms technosongs back in the day, gave some parties with a friend in some local discos...
good old days

One more little piece here...

This is something I'm actually working on for a commercial and/or
soundbank. (Actually pay me for crap like this!!! )
Whether it's exactly what the guy is looking for...I dunno yet.

Just called...

I have a Line6 POD XT which I really like. The great thing about it is that it simulates over 20 different types of cabinets and lets you adjust the postion of the mike on axis or off. When the Vetta 3 comes out I won't hesitate to pick one up.

Yeah I like the POD...played around with one in Guitar Center one day.
Definitely better, more...natural sounding than the too digital sound of
my Digi. I will be picking one of those up along with the Vox processor.
The one with the real vaccum tube in it. That thing sounds warm...smooth.

Only thing I still like better though on my Digi that the other two don't
have, is the compressor. Nice long sustain if you need it. I pick 80%
of the notes I play, if I were to just guess at a percentage. But also,
do alot of two-handed, 6-8 finger tapping. Need some sustain, and
light gauge strings for that. (.009 -.046).

Funny...I spent over $3,000 USD on my PC's...R9800XT,
3200XP Athlon...all the fastest memory, etc. Yet, just a few months
ago I found that you can basically be a one man orchestra on this
flippin' thing.

I thought..."Wow...hmmm...this is very cool.

Now I got a pretty killer gaming rig and should have concentrated
on what I have always wanted to do. Be able to compose entire
pieces...without having to deal with drummers and keyboardists,
who don't do as their told.

I recently tried out the Line6 Variaxe guitars, they're really cool. Having so many different styles of guitars in one is superb. I highly recomend you check them out.

It's stunning how powerful digital guitar amps and effects are today, while at the same time becoming very inexpensive.

Yep...:D

I'm mostly a fiddle-player on the performance side - (celtic - (Irish mostly) - country and bluegrass) - but I branch out of that a little more on the composition side - though I'm still fairly limited as to what I can do because of the 'virtual' instruments I (don't) have... If I had a decent mic. I could record my violin - but I don't..:-/ (And the basic classical guitar I have is broken too, lol).

But anyway - my music is here - (I'd like to hear what you think):

I'm a drummer. I also play piano, trombone, and fiddle on the guitar. Your stuff is ok, I haven't listened to all of it yet. Personally, though, I don't really like electronic music as much.

Well - my stuff isn't electronica...:) (I only really use two virtual instruments - Edirol Orchestral and Super Quartet, lol). (Though there are occasions when I drag out NI's FM7, just not often, lol).

Keill Randor, a.k.a.
Darren Tomlyn, fiddle-player and tune-writer.
