About ready to buy a Dell laptop, any input?

Oh man, this thing exceeds all my expectations by far. I'm happily blown away. :)

I gave up trying to un-install all the Dell crap and just re-partitioned the hard drive and installed XP pro on it. Took a while to find/figure out all the drivers, but I feel I know the laptop a lot better now.

Insanely fast boots since the re-install, like 45 seconds from off to ready. The screen is just f-ing gorgeous to me, after working on it for an hour I went back to my PC and the monitor looked fuzzy to me. :???:

Very happy, and my wife is too.

She actually cracked herself up today about it, she realized she's looking forward to going back to work just to see how it works out there with it.

I'm trying to figure out some decent games to load up to kill time with. Pinball games and some arcade games seem to play really nice on it to kill small bursts of time...

Nah, she'd never get into a RPG like that. Not her cup-o-tea.

I'm thinking some classic arcade games and such along with some good pinball games, those she'd play to kill a little time with at the store.

I dunno, I really don't. It's hard enough to pick games someone else might like, it's harder for me with my wife because I know she really doesn't have a taste in gaming yet....she's very eclectic and just likes what she likes.

I'll keep thinking on it, I already got her 120Gb hard drive down to 30Gb. :)

Armadillo Run. Its worth the $20, it really really is. You can try out the demo, its a physics based puzzle game. i  it even after beating its 50 levels 50 times each, you can spend tons of time coming up with creative solutions, cheap ones, wacky expensive ones, etc.

Got the wireless router today and just finished installing/setting it up. :)

I hate networking and suck at it, but I sure feel good when I get done and it's all working the way I want it to.

There is a software out there called Dell decrapifier which you might want to give a try to uninstall crud. I usually keep a copy ccleaner handy as well after all that uninstalling. Your boot time should be lower. My Dell boots in 25 seconds....

Thanks, but I already stripped her and re-installed. Makes it feel more like my laptop rather than an off-the-shelf feel. ;)

It's sweet, really sweet. Now that it's wirelessly functional I think it's pretty much done too and just in time, my wife is scheduled to go back to work tonight. (But she's not, she called off...the whole family is sick. :( )

Congratz for the new notebook :)
It is really hard to find a good game for other person. You will have to try some diverse games:

- The Sims (my daughter like it)
- Some Casino games
- Maybe some multiplayer game.

I remenber a friend a long time ago who disliked all electronic games and one day he tried the Doom multiplayer (the original one). He changed his mind.
