2K Sports presents... Sports Legends Football?

www.footballresurrected.com

The flash contains a list of players included in the game, as well as a couple mug shots (game models?). A nice list although they are missing my favorite hall of famer (Largent). I do wonder if EA knew about 2Ks plans. They locked up the NFL, NCAA, and AFL and last year they licensed a number of hall of famers (some exclusive?) They definately have made 2Ks path very, very difficult to compete. Ironically in today's Madden updates EA admitts that Madden 2007 feel very short. Which only goes to demonstrate that exclusivity has hurt in a number of ways.

yep competition is good IMO.

Also, I saw a TV Ad for Madden 08 TODAY (April 07) for an August release. They're a little worried but 2k8 won't get near their numbers although I'll be buying it.

They have little need to worry. The NFL is football in America. The NCAA is distant 2nd. And while there is a market for a) fans of old stars and b) those who dislike Madden's gameplay and/or EA, the fact is the NFL is huge and todays stars are what sell. If Madden even has a half competant product (they will, even the lack luster 2006/2007 versions are deeper than most next gen games in general) they are not at much risk.

So looks like no Natural Motion?

They'll have to show that they're deserving of financial support, that it would be in the consumer's interest to have them continue to develop an alternate NFL engine so that they can try to re-bid for the licenses when they're available again.

The legends thing is an interesting gambit but a lot of the people who buy sports games, especially Madden, are young guys who never saw Butkus and others play.

They may have dim memories of Montana if any and probably just saw Rice as an old player.

I haven't seen any talk recently about it... and from the pics I've seen, I'll pass.

someone from Operation Sports (Mod) whom I trust explicitly over the years as a harsh judge of sports games (football especially) is in contact with the 2K team and promises that those pics are less than an Alpha build and are simply placeholder models.

He promises that graphics will not be on a Mass Effect GoW level but on par with or better than any sports game.

Looking at the graphics in MLB 2k7 I do not doubt 2K for a minute.

I don't doubt the talent of these guys either, but having no NFL license and no RT NaturalMotion etc makes me skeptical. Without these two items the novelty of legends in pro football would hopefully be accompanied by the best graphics seen in a football game and ideally this will also include much better subtle/detail animation. This is what's really missing from bringing the game to life. The graphics in Madden 07 are decent enough, but the frame rate/vsync could use some serious improvement and the animation is lacking as well in the subtle details. I'd like to see more in the facial animation dept as well during plays and afterward. (at least in replays)

Having said all that, I'll probably still get it because I need my football fix and I haven't bought one since nfl 2k5 (getting a wee bit old). FTR - Madden sucks.

1up podcast info on this game...

http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3158196

Among the highlights.

You can have 11 legends per team:
2 GOLD level legends, 3 SILVER level legends, 6 BRONZE level legends (11 total)

Weather effects are "really well done" and can seriously "effect gameplay".

There are online tournaments, online leagues.

You CAN customize generic players.

The build that the 1up guy saw had "players that look Next Gen".

EB's mid July release date confirmed by 1up. (1 day before NCAA).

$60 confirmed.

also found there are one handed tackles including using the Rt stick but not as a hit stick but as a normal tackling method.

thankx for the info.....

so with that release date....Legends Football is now competing with NCAA as well as Madden.....LOL...

soon enough, we will have some talented gamers recreate College football teams and players.........as well as NFL teams and players.......

even though I'm sure this will not effect EA as far as sales (well at least this year)......it is nice to know we have a choice for our nextgen football fix.....college and Pro.....

I thought you couldn't edit rosters or teams.

Next-gen. Hmm, football, at the line of scrimmage, you have to be zoomed out.

So how next-gen could it look?

Oh yes, those in-between plays cutscenes, which people just dismiss after seeing them the first few times.

Because people would rather get to picking plays than watch cutscenes.

If they really wanted to be nextgen, it would be to use Endorphin/Morphine.

As far as I am concerned it's not competing with either of those. Madden NFL is sadly unplayable for me at this point, and if this 2K football game is line with their old engines, then no comparison. IMO.

Someone posted a real detailed head model of Jerry Rice on Operation Sports. You could see veins and a Miami Vice beard stubble.

Looks good but I think they're taking the wrong approach to next-gen football.

They could spend a lot of time developing such detailed art assets but the only time you're going to appreciate them is in the close-up cut scenes between plays.

Now there are big fans of "atmosphere" and "presentation" who care about this more than gameplay.

But a lot of people are more interested, after seeing some of those cut scenes a few times, in dismissing them so that they could get right to the play select screens.

Most of the game is played at the LOS cameras, which are zoomed out, where you're not going to be looking for veins on players' heads.

They should be concentrating on enhancing the experience at that level, like more realistic physics, maybe a dynamic camera which pans smoothly to show parts of the field where the control mechanics could be improved.

Instead, they seem to be focusing on atmospherics and cosmetics. Somewhat understandable, since they don't have the NFL or NFLPA licenses but they do have licenses to the legends that they would want to highlight the latter -- "look at how good Jerry Rice's face looks in our game!" We have Rice and Butkus, they don't!

But is this really the best way to address Madden's shortcomings, to differentiate itself from the dominant player in the market? The value proposition they seem to be aiming at is nostalgia, not necessarily better gameplay.

This game is suppose to come out next month, at the same time as NCAA? It takes a lot of work to generate detailed models and other art assets like that (will we see fans with painted faces in the stands again?). Hope they have something else up their sleeves.

2K Always prized itself on gameplay and not neccesarily graphics.

Indeed.

Way back when, I thought this game would do just that by having Natural Motion physics based animation. Now, not so much.

I may buy it just to help fund the team though for the (hopeful) return of the NFL license.

'06 Madden was garbage and sadly, so was '07.

have there been any videos released yet, Natural Motion is nice but give them a little credit they may come up with something just as good or better.

the 2K team had physics and animation on the xbox that, to me, rivals current gen madden and they have a good track record with upgrading the entire package, not just graphics

also I read somewhere that Natural Motion, and the like, would/could cause a delay in button presses and actions taken, which could do a lot to hurt the gameplay
