2D acceleration on mobile devices

Hey, I was remote-desktop'ing into my worstation at work with my PocketPC and, even though it's a top performer in it's league (ASUS A716), it was painfully slow.

Now, I know that there are a few PPC's with 3d accelerators... but I'm wondering about 2D. I don't really have a use for 3D as it's a utilitarian device and I don't plan on gaming on it. Heck, I hardly ever game at all. So, what's out there when it comes to PocketPC's (or Linux-based mobiles) with 2D accelerators?

damn... I'm trying tos et it up so that I can VPN into my home network from anywhere with a WiFi connection and remote desktop to my desktop. but, when i remote desktop'd into my workstation at work with my ASUS PocketPC 716 it was horribly slow to just scroll the screen

You have, of course, made sure that you have no desktop wallpaper, correct?

You should be running with a completely blank desktop, few icons, and be in classic UI mode (normal square windows... no special skins or effects) and have almost all performance options turned off. (Such as scroll-out dialog boxes and such.)

yup... although apparently i had forgotten and left my MyPal in power-saving mode :p Put it on turbo and it was much better.

as to related to this.... I'll quote myself from another mobile graphics thread:

well, this is not 3D, but it's something related to mobile devices:
07.03.2005 Bitboys Introduces Vector Graphics Processor for Mobile Devices at Game Developers Conference
as a snippet from press release:
"As much as we all love 3D graphics, it's 2D that does most of the work - good 2D with the anti-aliased edges and sharp lines that are essential on a tiny screen. To do it right without using excessive amounts of power or transistors takes real skill," said graphics industry expert Dr. Jon Peddie of market research firm Jon Peddie Research. "The market potential for 2D or vector graphics acceleration is over 425 million units, and more if you add dedicated vector acceleration to high-end phone 3D engines. Bitboys is a leading IP core supplier in the handheld market, and the introduction of a dedicated vector graphics engine will propel them even further."
The whole press release is available at Bitboys site:

I think this is the thing some of those might still want, who said that they do not need 3D in phones. Anyone would love to have longer battery hours.
