Large (and typically, american) engines tend to be naturally aspirated from what I've seen. Maybe detroit should hook up a turbocharger to some of their offerings, these can be used in novel ways to actually reduce fuel consumption rather than increase it, and also boost low-range torque as well. Saab has done some quite interesting stuff with turbos over the years...
I know all about american v8s, being a fat, stupid american;)
You do realize mustang cobras are sced (for the last gen atleast) right?
rated at 390HP from a DOHC 4.6.
Oh and ya.. turbos are load dependent so you'll get better gas mileage vs SCers when you're romping on it yada yada yada since SC are just speed dependant and because of that turbos can actually make better low end torque vs scers.
The only plus side to scers is complexity of turbo systems and the always on deal for decent sized engines.
Obviously a 2 liter turbo with a huge turbo is gonna have a lag and it won't" come on" until like 4000rpm+.
Not a bad deal for RWD cars.. a bit of lag can be good to avoid spinning tires exiting a turn.
