Nvidia GeForce RTX 50-series Blackwell reviews

Its not CPU limited in 1080p on a 5090: https://gamegpu.com/action-/-fps-/-tps/doom-the-dark-ages-test-gpu-cpu A 12600K is enough for the 5090. Its the software running on the GPU limiting the throughput. There is some serious serial limitation on Lovelace and Blackwell.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 50-series Blackwell reviews

The 5080 is slower in 1080p. The only downgrade on Blackwell is the L2 cache with higher latency. So ID Tech seems to like fast L2 cache.

Playing Doom Eternal reminds me why real hardware Raytracing is so good. These reflections are god tier, best i have ever seen. You dont get this kind of image quality in Dark Ages. The successor downgraded graphics to appease console gamers with a graphics IP from 10 years ago. Implementing a...

Why is "open world" always an excuse for unoptimized games? Metro Exodus EE is open world, too and runs with 150 FPS in 4K on a 5090 with better GI and reflections. Control has destruction, too and this game also runs with >120 FPS in 4K. And Dark Ages RT reflections are nearly non existent. So...

So, this game has barely any raytraced reflections and it a huge step down from Eternal - german video: Filled with low quality rasterizing effects (shadows, SSRs and whatever) and runs with 1/12 of the performance of Eternal. /edit: Here is a screenshot from Eternal with no raytracing...

nVidia said it wil be released "a little bit after the release". I think it wont came because it will be unplayable for 90% of the users. /edit: Fun fact: Doom Eternal with Raytracing runs over 3x faster in nativ 4K on a 5090: You cant get to 300 FPS in Dark Ages at all on a 5090 even with...

Which is my point. "Optimized" would be to make it better and not just a basic BVH implementation with five rays. That is a total waste of ressources and a regression even from Battlefield 5 (that game had four settings for reflection quality...). This makes proper hardware raytracing not...

Doom: Dark Ages is the next unoptimized game for nVidia user: https://www.computerbase.de/artikel/gaming/doom-the-dark-ages-benchmark-test.92497/seite-2#abschnitt_benchmarks_in_wqhd_uwqhd_und_ultra_hd_mit_hwraytracing 5090 is 47% faster than the 9070XT with "hardware" raytracing. I think is...

You can lower texture quality and use DLSS. In the end these reviews are useless for everyone. Like companies not sending their lower tier products to reviewers (cars).

Nvidia GeForce RTX 50-series Blackwell reviews

I think nVidia knows what the conclusion of these reviews will be. So they have no reason to let reviews published at release time. For me this is just evolution from the feedback they have gotten. And becaue these reviewers do not care about all features there is no incentive to send them...

Digital Foundry Article Technical Discussion [2025]

That isnt true. 4A games has ~200 employees and their GI solution is one of the best on the market and miles better than Lumen. Inhouse engines have to be efficient and must create a return of investment.

Digital Foundry Article Technical Discussion [2025]

Thats quite ironic when UE5 has no real HW-RT support and uses inefficient ways to "fake" raytracing.

The question is what happens when workload doesnt scale with wider GPUs? The 5090 should be 2x as fast as the 5080. But the 5090 is only around 50% faster. So either you only improve die size by the amount of performance improvement or you go all in for the fun.

Ironiallcy the slide only starts with Kepler "700" series. With "600" there was the GTX690 with used two GK104 chips. So a GTX660 had less than 1/3 of the cores of the GTX690...
