No new videocard designs for 6months or so?

Hate to burst yore bubble here, but I'm running SCCT now with SM30 and all advanced options enabled at 1280x1024 at 40+fps (minimum, and mostly over 60fps) on my 6800GT as we speak (no AA/FSAA, but these are useless in this game's environment anyway). So I'm still waiting for an argument...

No new videocard designs for 6months or so?

I'm assuming no significant advances in videocard design will appear until near Xmas, is that about right? I haven't seen any games lately that claim to stretch the hardware envelope, and the UE3 engine won't appear for a year at least. Is there any reason to think my oc'd 6800GT won't...

    Doom3: Will it have a separate SM3 codepath ?

Hi, are there optimizations for Nvidia-specific features in this game? I seem to recall Carmack wanting all cards to run the same code. rms

    What are Extreme Pipelines?

Hi, I see these mentions of "12 pipelines, 8 extreme pipelines". Does that mean 8 of 12 are enhanced in some way, or are these in addition, or what. And what is meant by 'extreme'. rms

    Isn't buying a NV40 or R420 a dumb idea?

With a AthlonXP @ 2.4ghz and a 9700pro, I'm also torn between buying now and waiting for PCX. The Farcry demo is not smooth when maxed out, and I also suspect the videocard is the bottleneck. For now I will simply change my gaming habits :) and stick to games I know run smoothly, like...

    Will R420 Support 3D Glasses ?!

ATI has pointedly refused to support 3D Glasses for over a year now. Since R420 apparently will have few new features and only offer increased speed, will this be yet another generation of ATI cards that will not support 3D Glasses? rms

QUAKE3 IS A WORTHLESS BENCHMARK. WHY IS IT STILL BEING USED

Re: QUAKE3 IS A WORTHLESS BENCHMARK. WHY IS IT STILL BEING I was told (I have no way to verify this) that AMD approached Carmack with a request to add AthlonXP support to Quake3, and that he refused for whatever reason. All that would be needed to even the playing field is to recognize the...

QUAKE3 IS A WORTHLESS BENCHMARK. WHY IS IT STILL BEING USED

Its now almost 2004, and sites are *still* using this 3-year old game to benchmark. FACT: Both 3DNOW and SSE are non-functional in Quake3 on AthlonXP cpus (and probably disabled as well on the Athlon64, no data there as yet), but SSE is *enabled* on all Intel cpus. Not a big surprise there...

    Toms speaks!!

I sent an annoyed email to the article's author, asking for some editorial backbone. Prolly more people need to do that. rms

NVIDIA's Driver team brass on IRC tonight.

I caught the last 1/2hr of it, no cheating questions were addressed. rms

Aquamark3: Its goal, and How will they handle cheating ?

Well, I posted questions on their forum http://forum.aquamark3.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73 From looking over the site, it appears Aquamark3 will just be a toy, and they have no intention of chasing after driver cheats. I would like to see an interview with them that addresses these...

ExtremeTech - Leaked nVidia Driver Doubles 3DMark03 Score

How could Futuremark ever justify issuing more patches when Nvidia is paying them to be in the beta program and have access to all the code? I think Futuremark is in an impossible position now, and they will not issue more patches unless forced to. I think the ball is now in the court of the...

ExtremeTech - Leaked nVidia Driver Doubles 3DMark03 Score

Hi, I've seen posts that 44.71 whql drivers are out. Do these include the magical 100% 3dmark gains? rms

How do you measure AA ?

Many times I've seen mention of ATI's 4xAA being superior to Nvidia's 8xAA (or some similar claim). Is there any method of measuring if in fact this is the case, that (for instance) the Nvidia drivers are simply lying to the user about what level of AA is actually being displayed, or are using...
