Geforce 6800 vanilla vs the new low to mid range 8000 series cards.

just dumped my vanilla 6800 for an 8800 GTS - and I'll never look back! If you check here you can at least compare a 6800 GT against the 8800 series cards: http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html Subjectively I would say that the increase in performance I notice is very similar to the...

    The AMD/ATI "Fusion" CPU/GPU Discussion

As I postulated somewhere else in this forum a while ago, the real issue is getting the software boys to code for multiple cores - the gpu guys are further along here than the cpu guys because of OpenGL and DirectX - one day MacroShaft (...did I spell that right... ) is going to come...

Making a custom 3D graphics card accelerator

I checked Mosis out - backend tools irrespective - the minimum order qty is ~ $60K - i.e. your initials need to be A. T. I. first  Just as a matter of interest - professional tools cost upwards of $40K per tool per seat per year in licensing fees. The quality of these tools is pitiful...

Efficient scheduling for single- and multi-core?

I just wanted to point out that if you check out any good book on high-level synthesis ( you can find some papers here for example http://www.ida.liu.se/~cadlab/synthesis.html) you will find a lot of information about scheduling which may be useful. This information is oriented towards...

Making a custom 3D graphics card accelerator

Oops - sorry - I see you want to use FPGAs - have you tried the Xilinx or Altera web-sites - they make everything related for FPGA applications, including open-source software to convert Verilog or VHDL into a toastable specification...

Making a custom 3D graphics card accelerator

As far as I have heard, it costs about $10 million to toast an ASIC in 90 nm technology (and this is after you have spent many man-years in design and verification). Are your initials A - T - I  ? It is possible to use larger technologies (300 nm) and do limited runs for research or...

Efficient scheduling for single- and multi-core?

Hey Maven - are you still with us? Haven't seen your posts in this thread recently - even though you started it. Could you summarize what (if anything  ) you have found out from all of the replies you have received?

Real time raytracing to go mainstream?

Intel thinks it's possible  - here's an article from Intel Technology Journal on the topic.... http://www.intel.com/technology/itj/2005/volume09issue02/art01_ray_tracing/p01_abstract.htm

Real time raytracing to go mainstream?

For those of you who can read german, a link to a job offer from a company in the saarbruecken area developing real-time ray-tracing technology for use in the automotive industry...

complex numbers, multi dimentional primitives, fractals

It's easy - duuuuuh - if complex numbers were easy to understand then they wouldn't be called complex, now would they

    ATI OpenGL Developper Support

ATI support is OK s far as Windows support is concerned, but if you need any info about Linux you will get quite pissed off at their attitude, based on my experience. I would welcome the opportunity to contact Humus in case of problems (if I hadn't trashed my ATI card and bought an Nvidia one) :)

    GPU vs CPU: benchmark?

Just out of interest, I have already tested this on my 2.8 Ghz Athlon-64 with NV-6800 GPU. The results are: CPU: 72.78 Mflops GPU: 2440.32 Mflops The test was the matrix multiply shown below - you may quibble about the benchmark but what you see there is one floating point add and one...

    Geometry Shaders

I'll try to discuss this topic anyway... I was just looking at an NVidia demo for the 7800 called luna. The demo contains an extremely realistic looking female character with animated facial features. When you switch wireframe mode on, you can see that hundreds of thousands of polygons are...
