Xbox Series X [XBSX] [Release November 10 2020]

One thing that has bothered me since the XSX teardown is there appears to be a lot of empty space inside the XSX chassis, and I'm not sure oh why. Is there a good reason they just continue with the Xbox One X chassis? The heatsink appears to be a very similar size between One X and XSX, so...

VIA / Centaur makes a comeback with all new x86-cores and integrated AI accelerator

Some more insight into this chip from WikiChip, this time focusing on the NCORE processor: https://fuse.wikichip.org/news/3256/centaur-new-x86-server-processor-packs-an-ai-punch/ Some nice die shots in there. The full wikichip article is up too...

    Could Matrox make a comeback?

A come back from what? I'd rather see Imagination technology make a comeback...heck, how about S3 Graphics .

Baseless Next Generation Rumors with no Technical Merits [post E3 2019, pre GDC 2020] [XBSX, PS5]

If they used the same chip for super slim PS4, I wonder if the difference in price would be that great across the total BOM (chassis, PSU, heatsink, transportation). Basically I really, really want a portable PS4. Make it happen Sony. Please. Pretty please even.

    DirectX Ray-Tracing [DXR]

Not sure what thread to stick this in so feel free to move: https://www.google.com/amp/s/directtovideo.wordpress.com/2013/05/07/real-time-ray-tracing/amp/ A nice little big on the guy who made the renderer for the Five Faces demo There is a link to the demo on the YouTube channel. I've ran...

AMD Radeon VII Announcement and Discussion

As CarstenS mentioned, the key word in that sentence is "handled". We don't know how these 11 polygons were "handled" - my guess is that by handle they mean discard, rather than generate; the Vega white paper would point to this as well.

AMD Radeon VII Announcement and Discussion

VII overclocking review - they manage to get it over 2Ghz at 360 watts: https://www.hardwareluxx.de/index.php/artikel/hardware/grafikkarten/48634-radeon-vii-im-oc-test-mit-neuem-treiber-bei-ueber-2-ghz.html

Next Generation Hardware Speculation with a Technical Spin [pre E3 2019]

If they do go with 8 or more Ryzen cores, it'll be interesting what happens in the PC space, as the mass majority of users are on 4 cores or less, which might "encourage" an upgrade. AMD might be looking to capitalise on that fact - how many 8 core CPU's do Intel have coming down the pipe?

What's the definition of a 4K capable GPU? *spawn *embarrassment

I think people are applying there own personal perspectives on what qualifies as a "4K card" probably a little too much. Suffice to say that the GTX 2060 can play games at 4K, at a frame rate somewhat determined by the end user by reducing various quality settings in a particular game. If you...

Rumor: XBox dual SKU next-gen launch

I think one of the big issues with a 2 SKU launch will be getting the balance between the consoles just right. If the top tier SKU commands a much higher price than the base console, it will need to be sufficiently more powerful to justify the price. There might also be the temptation to...

All purpose Sales and Sales Rumors and Anecdotes [2018 Edition]

What's really crazy is what Nintendo can do going forward. If they can price reduce the switch down to near 3ds levels, I think it will sell bucket loads. Also, as the SOC they use isn't even remotely near it's clockspeed limits, they could release a "switch 2" using the same SOC, though I think...

    CPU performance comparison stuff *cleanup*

Not necessarily, cost of manufacturing should be taken into account. If that higher clocking, higher IPC and lower tdp chip cost twice as much to manufacture as the competition, you better not hope that said competition is less than 15% behind in performance*. *I'm not saying that is the case...

    Should MS create a handheld?

Any handheld released really needs access to a library of games, hence why I would prefer and portable Xbox one; it will get new games without any extra work for the developers. An alternative, though not as attractive, would be a portable Xbox 360 with an ODD dock. A die shrunk 360 would...

    Should MS create a handheld?

A £130 Chromebook has a 38wh battery, so I don't think price is an issue, size and weight would be bigger obstacles.
