AMD Vega 10, Vega 11, Vega 12 and Vega 20 Rumors and Discussion

It's really a stretch to believe that AMD would already sell 7nm gaming Vega in 2H 2018 for 550 Dollars with more than 64 CUs and in the video there is even speculation that AMD would change the memory interface to GDDR6 because HBM2 is so expensive. That's all a bit too dreamy isn't it?

Just compute shaders culling geometry: https://techreport.com/news/33153/radeon-rx-vega-primitive-shaders-will-need-api-support It's also an ingame setting which you can toggle on/off on all GPUs.

    Direct3D feature levels discussion

Resource Heap Tier 2 yeah: https://www.nvidia.com/content/dam/en-zz/Solutions/design-visualization/technologies/turing-architecture/NVIDIA-Turing-Architecture-Whitepaper.pdf Now in comparison to Pascal also Conservative Rasterization Tier 3 should be in.

AMD Vega 10, Vega 11, Vega 12 and Vega 20 Rumors and Discussion

Vega has internally less different hardware states for the execution of said shader types but AMD advertised explicit programmability for higher throughput and several new features while Rys from AMD even stated implicit acceleration which both seem to never happen for Vega/GFX9. As it is now...

AMD Vega 10, Vega 11, Vega 12 and Vega 20 Rumors and Discussion

AMDVLK is developed by AMD and it's the driver which is shared between Windows and Linux, so Primitive Shaders from AMD's side are a closed book for GFX9. RADV is an open source Vulkan driver which in contrast to the open source OpenGL driver RadeonSI AMD doesn't support. It would be quite a...

    AMD Vega Hardware Reviews

Vega/GCN Gen 5 offers on average the same performance benefit to Fiji/GCN Gen 3 per clock as does Polaris/GCN Gen 4 in contrast to GCN Gen 3. But Vega has the DSBR for reduced overdraw, L2$ coherent ROPs, a better Workload Distrubutor for better management of context storage and small primitive...

AMD Vega 10, Vega 11, Vega 12 and Vega 20 Rumors and Discussion

Fritzchens Fritz did a follow up with clear PS4 Pro shots: There is the open question if the PS4 Pro has 64 ROPs because it has four Shader Engines and deactivates two for backwards compatibility. ---- But speaking of pure Vega, according to Marc Sauter (y33H@) from the german IT site Golem...

Why do GCN Architecture chips tend to use more power than comparable Pascal/Maxwell Chips?

It was mentioned by Anandtech that GCN Gen 4 (Polaris) already increased the instruction buffers from 12 DWORDs to 16, where the marketing slide confirms an increase: https://www.anandtech.com/show/10446/the-amd-radeon-rx-480-preview/3

    Multidraw/exIndirect has/starting to arrive

Wolfenstein 2 uses Vulkan exclusively on PC, OGL isn't available in the game. Now that glslang can translate most HLSL shaders to feed into SPIR-V I wonder if more developers will look into Vulkan or if it's still to early?

    AMD Vega Hardware Reviews

With Vega there is a new deep-sleep-state: https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Vega_Microarchitecture_Technical_Overview/images/slides-46.jpg Computerbase (German) writes that doing nothing yields in ~27 Mhz, moving a window ~50 Mhz and surfing at complex websites ~100 Mhz. The HBM2 will be...

AMD Vega 10, Vega 11, Vega 12 and Vega 20 Rumors and Discussion

As far as I know three german sites tested the HBCC (High-Bandwidth-Cache-Controller). The results are mixed, some games profit from the HBCC some games are running worse. I uploaded two images with some results below, there are more results if you click on the links. Computerbase (had mixed...

AMD Vega 10, Vega 11, Vega 12 and Vega 20 Rumors and Discussion

The results from CB indicate less than 15% clock difference in practise. In the 1080p Index the 1060 GTX is 63% faster than the 1050 Ti Storm modell, while the whole system consumption increases about 49%. TPU testet the MSI 1050 Ti gaming with an additional 6-pin connector, the perf/watt...
