Going down that route will drive MS right out of retail stores. I imagine most stores like Best Buy, CC, etc.. sell consoles at no margins or minimal ones to make up for it in moving software (similar to what MS and Sony do, lose money on console and make it back via software/dlc).
With a...
according to [H] review
"The X800Pro should be selling in major retail online outlets today, May 4th, and selling for an MSRP of $399. The X800XT Platinum Edition will begin shipping to retailers by May 21st and will be sold at an MSRP of $499. As usual, those MSRP prices will deflate...

damn.. pro and XT seem consistantly to have at least one resolution higher setting than the 6800U at the same rates, sometimes even 2
:)
by the way he worded this. If necessary, it seems they have more
examples to throw out if needed to prove their conclusion
Also, digi, I think Ati doesn't match the refrast because they render in FP24 instead of FP32 so there should be minor differences. NV40, if truly rendering in FP32...
I thought game developers were supposed to dictate how a game runs and looks.
Not an IHV who decides that lowering the quality will bost their scores. I'm increasingly getting suspect of all the other 6800U scores. Maybe this 2X-3X advantage over the 9800XT is more like a 30% increase when...
That's the thing though Joe. Ati DOESN'T drop to FP24. They can ONLY run FP24 because of their architectural design. As long as they are following DX9 spec should it be considered cheating??
I think that FM designed the PS2.0 shaders to use FP32 in mind because it would not be fair to Nvidia...
I'm not gonna pretend I know it all, but I will throw this out to all the experienced coders and developers here on a theory for GT4's drop
From my understanding Ati's architecture only allows it to run at FP24 in all PS2.0 shaders and such. Is it possible that GT4 is calling for FP32 shaders...
oh god...
I just read on 2 forums and guess what....
now that the report is out, everyone is switching from Nvidia didn't cheat because you can't see it to Ati is cheating too.
Now they have yet another mindless defense to spew in favor of Nvidia.
:(
Geforce FX users are afraid to post their performance because they well know it's WAY below Ati's even with Ati emulating Nvidia proprietary extensions.
They are also afraid to post screenshots as to show the shortcomings of FP16 and FX12 in which Dawn was most likely coded :)
I remember...
