As you may have noticed, I did choose right. That was just because I felt the right side was slightly more blured or left side was slightly sharper. I watched the picture only 30 seconds, not using any analysing tools, but knowing that traditional trilinear filtering could overblur, guessing...

Agree, and let me visualize it as best as my texture filter allows:

:) I'm detecting NV40 brilinear in 10 seconds, while it took me 5 minutes to choose R420 @ 16xAF as the sharpest shot, yam!

I agree with both of your opinions. One of the hands says "If it's not noticable in games or in a realworld apps, it should be legit" and the other hand says "I personally notice that in X Y and Z" what IMHO means, that such optimisations should be adjustable by users themselves. It's all about...

There are differences. The txtures are sharper on R420, what should normaly cause less smoother transitions, which actually is not detectable by my eyes, and I guess, that's because the next level is sharper than on NV17 too. Some people might call it oversharpened. In that case, we should judge...

Before getting headache while switching between the shots for over 30 minutes, I found some areas, where R420 provides shraper textures, and I'm still missing those hard transitions I was seeking for. If this is the result of an optimized trilinear, I'd prefer to call it a genius one. Anyway...

Let's go for "Smart Trilinear"
