    Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Reviews

The scalping and instant sell-outs of these GPUs is just dumb. I'm tired of it. 4090, 4080, can't get because there aren't enough made at the very moment they go on sale and for weeks afterward. CPUs and other related products generally don't have this problem. Enough of this silliness, I'm...

AMD: Zen 4, Speculation, Rumours and Discussion

That sounds like a reasonable stretch, 3 gens. My main goal is ensuring top AI/simulation performance on poorly optimized games that rely mainly on single threads and/or fast/fat cache like Cities Skylines, Minecraft modded server hosting, Civ VI, etc. Need to sheer brute force some of these...

AMD: Zen 4, Speculation, Rumours and Discussion

Do we know how many generations AM5 may last? I was going to go Raptor Lake, but it's EOL for the platform.

Windows Mixed Reality brought back to life (active partnership with Valve?) - HP Reverb G2

Higher quality than this Reverb G2? I'm intrigued. Looks like the VR industry and gaming for it is accelerating.

Windows Mixed Reality brought back to life (active partnership with Valve?) - HP Reverb G2

Interesting. I should have clarified... "simulation" as in Cities Skylines, Civilization, Factorio, even games like Terraria, etc. Though I admit I can't wait for a good VR racing game to come along, and I salivate at the idea of GTV VI VR edition. I can also get into the ones you suggested...

Windows Mixed Reality brought back to life (active partnership with Valve?) - HP Reverb G2

VR tech is really getting impressive. I haven't owned a VR headset yet, but I'm thinking this one might be my first. One major concern I have with VR, and this somewhat extends to consoles still, is the lack of control fidelity that you get with a keyboard and mouse. I play a lot of simulation...

Ray Tracing and GPU Memory Requirements

I've been reading a lot about ray tracing tech here in the forums, but I'm still not sure how a ray traced game would affect the memory requirements for a GPU. As I understand it currently, entire scenes are required to load into GPU to process a ray traced scene, but does that require you to...

    Possible w/DP1.4?: 5160x2160 (Ultrawide), 10bit, HDR, 144hz

Without the vertical 2160 changing, this sounds like it's a near 16:9 (16:10) aspect ratio, which is a normal 4K, not Ultrawide. That's where I was going with my last comment above, I'm wondering if a 32" 4K is 'good enough' for visual field, both wide and tall.

    Possible w/DP1.4?: 5160x2160 (Ultrawide), 10bit, HDR, 144hz

This is great, thanks for the link! Looks like it confirms what I suspected... compressed mode will do it, but otherwise it's bust. And if that's the case, I'm doubting 21:9 monitors of this sort, good ones, are 2+ years away then. I could hopefully be wrong, but it feels that way, even with the...

    Possible w/DP1.4?: 5160x2160 (Ultrawide), 10bit, HDR, 144hz

Just read this Anandtech article that had some excellent points about DSC. Apparently it's 'good' with the caveat that it's still a compressed stream, so enthusiasts and those looking for artifacts, may notice...

    Possible w/DP1.4?: 5160x2160 (Ultrawide), 10bit, HDR, 144hz

Thanks! This does provide theoretically the right information, but there's gaps. See, I'm trying to figure out the bandwidth needed for a resolution and screen size that doesn't really exist yet. So I have to compare the resolution of say 7680x4320, downsize that, and then figure out the pixel...

    Possible w/DP1.4?: 5160x2160 (Ultrawide), 10bit, HDR, 144hz

Assuming a monitor manufacturer uses the latest connection technologies (DP 1.4 basically), does anyone know enough about video bandwidths to conclude if the following together is possible in a monitor: 5160x2160 (Ultrawide rough equivalent of what is normally considered '4K' or more properly...

    3440x1440

I just bought a Samsung CF791 and love it... mostly. Like others in the thread, 38" Ultrawide sounds pretty fantastic too, but we really need to get beyond 109 PPI (3440x1440 in the case of this 34"). I don't need 4K PPI levels per se (160 PPI or more), but something that's higher than just 109...

    Nvidia Pascal Announcement

That's a good point, I think you're right. I'm getting ahead of myself here on the products for consumers I suppose. I was excited to see something about that at GTC, but I guess we'll be waiting for Computex. Has to be soon though with the schedule they've been talking about.

    Nvidia Pascal Announcement

Did anyone catch which DisplayPort version they are using? I assume at least 1.3, but 1.4 just came out and could be integrated as well, though it's perhaps a bit early yet for 1.4.
