Predict: Next gen console tech (10th generation edition) [2028+]

Well I could imagine that they now go for an open PC platform with min requirements for the hardware and everyone (certified) can bring out such a console with the Xbox os. With the current generation (and the one before) it is clearly visible that not many developers optimize for the hardware...

Yes, this was used in combination with eye tracking for VR. Lower res for everything that is not in direct sight of the eyes and higher res for things in sight. Well you could use this for console games as well, but without eye tracking it doesn't make that much sense.

That's why I'm happy that Risen was rereleased vor xb1 & xbs/x I played through this game on my xsx and yes, it is possible (ugly but possible). But the game itself is so great and I really wanted to play it from my couch on a big screen. Well, but still waiting that the rerelease gets a...

I think you should start up your PS2 again, than you wouldn't write such things ;) Even ps3 quality was most of the time worse. This is a game on switch that showcases what is still possible on so little hardware. Well .. the performance is not really good, but mainly the game stays the same...

That's a general problem of RT. You can "fake" those things so they are almost as good with much, much less power. But I guess all the tf of the 4090 are not even used as RT is bottlenecked through other parts so most of the GPU might not even do that much. But the resolution is really a bit...

Current Generation Games Analysis Technical Discussion [2023] [XBSX|S, PS5, PC]

We are 3 years in this generation and we have already titles that go sub 1080p (native). Yes there were always sich titles that (technically) totally underdelivered. But as game productions is now more and more complicated, I guess we will see such things more often. And yes there are and will...

Just makes the design more complex. There is no point of using such a design, if there is no reason behind it. E.g. in a mobile device it is the power consumption / battery life. If AMD has something like this as a base design, than they might use it, if not ... than not. And currently the CPU...

Often such features as fast travels to almost everything kill the game world, because players then often don't feel integrated into the world and just travel from mission to mission. Well it just not easy.

Actually it is not a port. It is just pourly optimized and the engine was maxed out in many ways. There is always a point in an engine (let's assume it is well optimized) where you reach a certain limit for a feature that ran well while the scene had only a few objects but than someone decides...

    System Reservations on PS4, 4Pro, PS5, XBox One, One S, One X, and Xbox Series X|S [2019-12, 2020-03]

Why? I don't think we have yet seen a scenario for the current gen, where the core count makes a difference. Especially if the code is optimized for around 7 cores (or 6.5) + HT. I would not really be surprised if we see 8 cores again with the next generation. It gets really hard to find use...

Upscale techs don't decrease memory consumption. You still need the framebuffer for the full 4k output signal. I could live with a 720p dashboard, as it is not important for me. But I guess it is not the OS ui that gets all the memory. It is more the running apps, services and thinks like...

It does also not help to overpromice in advance. Minecraft with RT support .... Still waiting... There was so much that went wrong this generation. I guess Sony delivered more by better hiding the compromises e.g. of RT features (e.g. very low poly objects in reflections). It also seems like MS...

Digital Foundry Article Technical Discussion [2023]

Sure I vote with my wallet by not buying such low effort port. But the problem is, in general such a game is good, but the production quality is bad. So if you vote against such a product only with your wallet, such games will vanish. I really hoped the publisher learned it's lesson after the...
