"According to Sanjeev Jha, country manager, Sujata Softech, Xbox had not yet been launched in India due to the relatively low broadband penetration in India. "Good Broadband access is an essential prerequisite for the Xbox to be successful in India.""

WTF? England has lower penetration if London-B is to be believed.

Some of the comments are really funny...

"#$@%!&* are using india as dumping grounds for the xboxes they cudnt sell elsewhere....

No, these small things don't matter to me now, I am above all these things. I have attained Gaming Nirvana.

Yes, but that was before Nirvana. ;) And after making the statement I realised that I have found the ultimate Truth. ;)

I would say, you are the last person to judge any one here :?

On serious note, I am happy that XB is released here. PS2 also had a quite launch here. It shows that Indian gaming market is growing rapidly. I am amazed to see how many people have a console here compared to few years back when I started hardly anyone knew about Playstation. Now a large no of people know about it. I hope it grows by leaps and bounds. I also believe that we must push BB aggresively. And as and when Indian market reaches critical mass, I hope to see games designed to Indian tastes with Hindi(other regional lan.) dialogues.

london-boy.... penetration...............BB..................

Isn't that off topic, what has l-b's unprotected sexual intercourses got to do with consoles?
I just don't see the connection to xbox and India :?

Until software piracy is no longer the "norm" in countries like India, I figure the only way consoles will be launched will be if the systems can turn a profit on sale, without relying on the software.

But..... if India is full of pirate copies of Halo2 4 months before release, what would they be playing it on if Xbox hasn't been launched there...? Do they have chicken-powered pirate xboxes?
this is a genuine question....

They should look into more secure content delivery... like Nintendo's done with iQue.

Should they have to?

Of course, piracy is one of our constitutional rights! The burden is not on us to stop being criminal, it is on the companies doing their job expecting to get paid for it!!!

How is the marketing in India? Dont be surprise if MS start giving away free Xbox! Be on the alert to grab one. ;)

But considering our population they will have to sell MS. ;)

Oh, No! Ballmer says No XBox launch in India

So deep was Ballmer's concern over software piracy that he ruled out the release of Microsoft's gaming hardware device XBox anytime soon in India, for the fear of its games — software on which the company actually makes money— being duplicated, making the company lose millions.

Good. I have no time for people who rip off others hard work to turn a buck.
