According to Rafael Gómez, a member of the Latamel company which represents Nintendo in Brazil, the Wii will launch in the region in the first week of December at a price between 1,400 and 1,500 Brazilian Reais. 10,000 hardware units are expected from the get-go.

Converting that Brazilbucks figure into American dollars puts the Wii's retail price in the country at around $650.

How are the other consoles priced in Brazil right now?

Her in brazil we pay much for our video-games.
Look:
PS2 in USA U$130
PS2 in Brazil +U$280 (R$700)
PS2 Games (USA) U$50
PS2 Games (BRA) U$125 (R$250)
X360 in USA U$300 / U$400
X360 in Brazil U$600 / U$700 (R$ 1300 / R$1450)
(here, 90% of the X360 comes “unblockdâ€￾ (may play non-original games… this is probably the reason for the high prices here…)

I’m brazilian too and paid around R$800 for a PS2.
R$1400 is expensive, but is expected for a console launch price. I’ve already seen X360 in stores for as much as R$2250, so the Wii is already cheaper.

I'm brazilian too...

On launch you could very easily find X360 being sold over 3000 Reais (~ US$ 1300)

X360 isnt sold officially on brazil right now (and would probably cost a lot more if would), these prices arent as high comparing to the predicted wii's because its imported.

The unblocked console they refer to, is the firmware hack wich allow your 360 to read backups (it has to be perfect copies of the game, no rip offs or any change work)... So far you can even play on live with those...

Thanks to this hack, its solding like water on the desert (considering the brazilian market of course), on sites like ebay.

Ms said at E3 that X360 will launch here, but, if they cant get someway to convice the goverment so they can not pay all the taxes (its 60% of the price of the equipament), the price will be much higher than it is now...

Kinda off, but kinda related: someone that works for Ms in Korea said this week that there will be an Live update to ban you from Live if you connect with the firmware hack, so its kinda risky to do...

60%?! That's a heck of a lot for CE goods. Is that general sales/VAT taxing, or something specific to consoes, or what?

Its applied to anything you import (yeah, i know. very hard to believe :p)

So what's up with that Live ban?

Its not an official anwser yet, but i'm sure its only a matter of time until it happens:

``Microsoft has warned the people who try to spread the knowledge that they will be subjected to the law,'' said Do Jung-han, Xbox's local product manager. ``The users of pirated consoles will not benefit from the hardware warranty and they will not be able to download important software upgrades through the Xbox Live network. So we don't think many people will try it.''

That's why like these fora. You'll never stop learning new things.

Anyway, what consoles have been officially released in Brazil? Xbox, PS2 and GCN?

Gcn was, just not by nintendo (Gradiente, was licensed by nintendo to do so), but after a few years, Nintendo ceased their contract, because they wanted to launch themselves.

Ms said a lot of times that was interested in lauching Xbox here in Brazil, but never did, thanks to taxes and piracy...

None of the playstations had been launched officially, and yet, they are by far the most sold :p (people have some schemes to import that has a chance of not paying any taxes)...

So, in short, All Sega consoles were released (not by Sega either, same thing that happened with Nintendo), and all nintendo consoles...

This next gen, Ms and nintendo have announced they will launch here officially, so maybe that estimulates sony too...

Microsoft announced at E3 that they would launch 360 in Poland later this year and now we already know launch date and price, so keep your hopes, LightHeaven.;)

I had a preorder back in october. Couldnt wait until they release :p

I love it, not just the games, but the console itself (and live) is perfect for me...

If Wii lauch here in november i'm planning to get one... Ps3 i'm going to wait until a price drop, it will probably go with pricetag higher than Us$ 900 in here...

Sorry to bring this up, but i think i should get you guys updated

The legal representative of Nintendo in Brasil has rised the Official Wii price...

Now its costs in the range of 1200 Us dollars... No typo here, its actually twice the price of the full featured Ps3 for a 250 dollars console...

Sucks to be a gamer in Brazil. I barely have the cash to pay for games where I live. Imagine living in Brazil

think thats bad? If you steal a wii, they'll lop off your head, hang your body by its entrails, and then go after your family. :runaway:

Not exactly pascal, right now 1 dolar is something like R$ 2.12 (may be something different, it changes every single day :( )

The problem here are not only the super high prices, but you also earn much less money. (the base salary here is in the range of 160 us dollars, and here you not receive in a hours-worked system, you earn a multiplier of the base salary and for a lot of jobs that multiply equals one)

Its actually funny, because an imported 360 is going to cost much less than a official Wii...

BTW, some stores are already taking pre orders of Ps3 by only 2,450 dollars o_O And worse, i called one of these stores, and when i heard of the price i said it was wayyyy of hand... And they told me they were ware of that, but since there's people paying (they had 2 preorders already) they are going to keep the price...

Sorry, I thought I originally wrote 2.2 conversion rate.

True, the lower part of the pyramid here receive much less than the equivalent in US. The difference rate gets lower as you move up the pyramid and sometimes an inversion happens.

This is extorsion...
