The games industry employs about 30,000 in the United States, and demand is expected to grow by about 15 percent, or 5,000 jobs, a year, Najjab said. Salaries vary from $49,000 for designers with a few years' experience to $300,000 for veterans.

From my experience, those numbers are pretty inflated. Of course, I haven't looked into it for about 5 years, but then the pay was pittance.

Oh yeah, IBM got caught with their hands in the accounting cookie jar.

We certainly live in interesting times.

300K was what level designers at iD got a few years ago I believe. This may have been even before royalties kicked in (not sure about this last part).

the news about IBM certainly is interesting. Hope they dont take a major hit to their stock until more is learnt. However after all this Enron/Worlcom/inclone crap I think people will just dump their stocks.

Those ranges also, of course, don't include the thousands of failed start-ups every year that end up making little to no money (if they don't LOSE money).
