ive got an athlon 1333 with an amd 761 chipset/mb i want to upgrade my cpu/mb . anyone been using an nfocre 2 ?how stable are they ? ive seen the benchmarks and they rock ,ive been thinking to get a barton @ 3000+ as it might be sometime before the athlon 64 becomes affordable ,anyone got any goss on any of this ?

ive just found out that the barton 3000+ will be priced @ $500 "gulp ",might have to wait a few months then for that one to go down in price .

I will let you know by the weekend my Nforce 2 shipped last night...nice thing about Nforce 2's is that they overide the multiplier protection on AMD and allowing some crazy overclocks with good ram.

a friend got a Asus Nforce 2 Board. looks quite good.

If you dont need a new PC ricght now, i'd for Intels 865/875 Chips and Cheaper HT P4's, since this will slash prices.

I'm really digging my nForce2 Epox 8RDA+ board. I may pick up the Barton-2500+, depending on initial benchmarks and overclocking results.

This sounds like an excellent price/performance buy for the next couple of months. By easter, the 2800 may or may not have dropped enough to become attractive. But up until then....

Some HQ RAM and an overclocking mindset should give quite respectable performance. :)

thats sounds sweet to me ,i didnt know that the barton existed in 2500+ so looks like ill be getting one of those and saving a bit of cash ,but damn the other side says wait for hammer and see what thats like ,oh well its only april before they start testing the opteron and we'll get a good idea of how its shaping up

My next computer will more than likely have a Hammer processor. Hoping that Shuttle can have their small form factor pc hammered out by then.(pun intended.) :)

later,

well, Ive been using this nForce1 for a while now, and its great. I actually won my XP 2400+ at the AMD Experiance convention thing. So I think I'll just get an nForce2 and water cooling, then O/C this baby up to 2.25ghz (2800+) or so. That should hold me over till the Athlon64 hits the streets.

I really dont think anyone should be buying the Barton 3000+ until it drops the price by about 1/2. You'd be spending a lot of money on a platform thats nearing the end of its life cycle. Even if you were to buy a PIV 3.06ghz right now, at least you could put it in a new motherboard later, then whenever you decide after that is when you can upgrade the CPU to 4ghz or something. *shrug*

thx all .im going for nforce2 with xp2200 for now ,i think thats the best value for money and performance (xp2200 price went down this week)

Hi-Ho

are you insane man?

go for the XP2100+ they can easily overclock to 2400+ on air! and if ur lucky you can get them even further unless you're using a Vapo :D

XP2100+, nForce2 and some Corsair ram, you cant go wrong.

ive done jack sh*t since my last posts ! ive changed my mind and decided to wait for the intel canterwood m/b and HT p4 @ 800mhz bus, i want to see a review of that first before i do anything since they're comin our this april. my plan is to go intel and then upgrade the p4 for an prescott later next year. i dont like to overclock!
