Tivo 2 Go on your PSP!

How can I get shows onto my Sony PSP (PlayStation Portable)?

Basically, you need to unlock your .tivo file and convert it from MPEG2 to MPEG4. To do this, download two free programs: 3GP Converter and AviSynth 2.55. Install AviSynth and then launch 3GP. The first time you run it, configure 3GP for English and set output to PSP, Direct, Renamed. You'll also need to edit the 3GP .ini file so that it recognizes Tivo files by adding this line in the [Avisynth] section: Ext3=TIVO:\cores\AVS_Skelton.avs. Once you've done that, launch 3GP, choose an output directory, drag your .tivo file in, enter your Tivo Desktop password, and conversion should begin. You can play around with output settings, though 368x208/29.97fps/QB7 Stereo/96kbps seems to have a decent balance of quality, file size, and time to convert. Your output file (i.e.: M4V00007.MP4) needs to be located in \MP_ROOT\100MNV01\ on your memory stick for the PSP to find it.
If this flow doesn't work (crashes, bad audio/video sync) on your system you can unwrap your .tivo file using GraphEdit, as described above, and then run your .mpeg through 3GP

What someone needs to do is figure out a way to connect a non-locked (read: non-Ipod) HD-based MP3 player to PSP. Can you imagine having a 40GB hard drive with movies, music and whatnot in your pocket?

Yeah I could see someone carrying around an HDD player AND a PSP just so they could hook it up to PSP for iffy reasons.

If you're really desparate for a HDD based MP3 player with a nice screen to watch movies etc. then just buy a PMP.

January 4, 2005, Seoul – Cowon Systems (CEO Park Nam Gyu, www.cowon.com) announced that at the 2005 International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) to be held in the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 6th, it would set up its own booth separately from the Korea Pavilion, and display a new portable multimedia player (PMP) as well as a digital multimedia product line-up that consists of four hard disk-type and three flash-type products.

The new PMP ¡°Cowon A2¡± will be opened to the public for the first time at the exhibition and has the most advanced design and features among PMP products released in and out of Korea. The Cowon A2 is equipped with stereo speakers and a 16:9 wide vision 4-inch TFT LCD that is the same aspect ratio as that of DVD¡¯s. It is a genuine portable multimedia device that can play various video formats such as DivX, XviD, and WMV, audio formats such as MP3, OGG, and WMA, and photo image formats such as JPEG and BMP. In particular, the Cowon A2 has a direct recording feature that allows real-time recording by connecting to a TV like a normal video recorder, and users can conveniently watch saved video files on a large TV screen by connecting to an external TV anytime, anywhere

wow that cowon pmp sound winner and look slick to boot!
rumored psp-hd cant come fast enough if sony don want psp multimedia to go waste and psp becoming no more than an expensive hi-tech gb.

Yep the A2 is really sweet. I like the fact you can hook it up to a tv for watching movies. The A2 looks better than any of the other PMPs on the market that I've seen. It would be really nice if they added a SD slot. I'm seriously looking at getting one this year.

how much it cost? hdd size?

real cool such small korean upstarts keep introing feature filled IT era dream gadgets, but pity they lack the power to market like big boys.

what other pmps are available?

It should be around $450 when released but the price is not set yet because Cowon havent decided what other features they would like to add. It seems pricey but it has a HDD so it's worth it. I believe the HDD is 20GB but this can of course change. There's no reason why they couldn't offer different HDD configurations since Cowon sells different HDD sized MP3 players at different price points. Check out this site for other PMPs.

The iAudio A2 is supposed to have 3 different HD sizes; 20, 30, & 60 Gig versions. Seems pretty sweet for sure but it's not available yet. I'm guessing someone will find a way to hook up a PSP and external microdrive sooner. But that's just a guess. :)
