To summarize, Nintendo is seeking to regularly poll consumer opinion on (currently) mundane and harmless topics. I'm a little concerned about the mass profiling this could allow them to do, when they start engineering their polls for that. Just as well it could be a nice weekly social ritual and get more members of the family to interact with the device.
(it integrates a simple "how well did I guess?" six-player multiplayer game, and new polls will come regularly)

New Wii Community channel

Later today, Nintendo will be starting a new Wii channel called "Everyone votes! Channel" It will feature polls, enquetes etc.. While some polls will be restricted to national level (a soba vs. udon poll makes little sense in Europe), other will be worldwide and can be accessed by users everywhere. The national polls will take place every week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday); the worldwide polls twice a month (1st and 16th). The results, which will of course be published somewhat later on, are displayed in in pie charts and local maps - showing the regional distibution - . It's also possible to compare your own prediction of the voting patterns to the worldwide results in a mini game.

Heh heh... congrats Nintendo. You're probably the savviest marketer of the 3. I can't wait to see the complete online service unfold this year.
 
That's a pretty neat idea. This would be a HUGE marketing research tool for future products/services.

I bet eventually one of the polls will ask: "Will you buy a Gameboy cellphone?" ;)

The channel actually allows users to submit suggestions for polls :devilish:
 
I downloaded this tonight, and it looks like it could be fun. I like how Nintendo approaches extra (non gaming-related) functions, with the Mii, the photo channel, Weather and News channels, and now this polling stuff. That's a great way to introduce other people in the household to the Wii itself, and help them start with the Wiimote.
