The slide to naming hell continues?

After the release of the 8800 GT Nvidia will update the 640MB GeForce 8800 GTS by introducing a new SKU that will feature a G80 GPU with 112 Stream processors enabled and working. The updated card will have the same clocks of the 8800 GTS with 96 working SPs - 500 MHz for the core, 1600 for the memory and a 1200 MHz for the shaders and will use the same heatsink.

Man, I hope that's wrong or they call it something else. The naming situation has gotten outright ridiculous in the last year or so. It's mostly been AMD, and NV joining the "wtf?" party would not be good news in my book.

That's what it says, yes. Whether its accurate or not is a different question.

The name isn't mandatory to be "8800 GTS".
A partner may call it "8800 GTO" or "8800 XT", Nvidia doesn't care.
Think of it as the HD2900 Pro of Nvidia. ;)

It would be funny if they were enabled and not working :D

If they call it the 8800 Pro then I'll be happy to think of it that way. If anyone calls it GTS I'm going to get out the spitwads.

I think it will be called the 8800GTR

You could then have

8800GT
8800GTS
8800GTR
8800GTO
8800GTO Competition Spec Z

I don't know what you are complaining about Geo, makes perfect sense to me :p

The name 8800GT itself limited performance of "G92" if they used "Pro","XT" or something that not make it sound inferior to "GTS",We could see G92 do full scale battle with RV670.
