Compeq Manufacturing, a leading Taiwan-based PCB maker, has secured an HDI (high density interconnect) board order for Sony PS3 game consoles, with volume shipments to begin between the end of June and early July, market sources indicated.

Compeq declined to comment on the report.

As in the last month a Koei executive said PS3 may be released in "hot Spring", it's likely that it's released in so-called summer.

If production starts in July, PS3 won't appear 'til 3 months later, surely. Spring New Zealand it is then :p

Start of production of this component in Taiwan wouldn't necessarily signal the start of production of that component period.

Still, Compeq themselves haven't said anything, so..

Agreed. On the other hand, it doesn't mean start of production of the PS3 as a whole either. ;)

Yeah, it'll be Spring NZ, but I'll be you we Kiwis won't see/feel/smell/touch or even taste a PS3 till Spring 2010!

Hell, the X360 hasn't even arrived here yet! :(

Might as well be a second supplier, right?

I mean, you would assume Sony would at least have the PCB layout ready for some time. The BR security issues can be fixed with a single chip, or even a board on the drive...

Or am I way off here? This makes no sense to me at all, unless they were never planning to do a Spring launch in the first place, but I don't believe that either.
