Chalk one up for the good guys, three US companies have just had their assets frozen over spyware:

It looks like the days of spyware being tolerated with a wink and a nod may be thankfully coming to an end. California's Enternet Media Inc. and Conspy & Co. Inc., as well as Ohio's Iwebtunes, have had their assets frozen by a U.S. court on allegations of bundling spyware with music and ringtone downloads, in one case going so far as to disguide the malicious software as a Microsoft security update. Microsoft themselves, Google and Webroot (of SpySweeper fame) helped with the investigation.
My thanks to Warp2search for the happy news.

Edit by Hanners: In other joyous spyware-related news, Microsoft have taken it upon themselves to remove Sony's controversial DRM rootkit via their anti-spyware software. Just don't ask me how I edited it over here. ;)
