slightly ot: CNN graphics of fighter planes

just saw on CNN, (Wolf Blitzer Reports) an awesome 3D animation of various U.S. fighter planes attacking targets in the desert. multipule F-14s, F-16s, F/A-18s and their weapons rendered in 3D. but I think it could have easily been done realtime on current 3D hardware....

makes me want to upgrade from my lowly GeForce2MX400 :(

after watching it a few more times, as nice at it was, i saw plenty of aliasing and other artifacts. it almost definitally was not prerendered.
in fact i'll bet GF3/8500 class harware could have easily done it RT. I guess it much cheaper to do animations on PC hardware. Ive noticed a huge drop in quality of 3D animations on NBC and CNN over the last few years. they used to do offline renders that looked so good. now they can get away with animations rendered on comodity hardware.

Probably before real time was not practical at all, so they might as well do a good job. But from a convenience standpoint real time is a lot better.

Thats an underestimation. Current and upcoming PC flight sims TROUNCE these presentations, and are in real-time.

You should see the flight simulators the air force has, top notch when it comes to the simulation, but really dated when it comes to graphics, and im speaking something that would look like a voodoo card with a very small ammount of memory.

I've seen much better commercial airline simulators, somethings that would bring any desktop PCs to its knees and beg for mercy.
